personally, i thought ayashi no ceres wasnt that great of a series, especially when compared to yu watase's other anime, fushigi yugi..

honestly, i just watched the anime because i loved fushigi yugi so much, but AnC pretty much dissapointed me. the story was interesting, then it all went down the drain, and the ending wasnt that great either..

then again this is just my personal ranting...feel free to disagree with me and post your own thoughts here.

I agree with you
The manga was so much better.... The series left out so much the manga was 14 volumes and made sense the series was very confusing
they kept leaving Shuro and Chidori out and in the 7th manga Aya and Toya had sex .. I am on the 5th dvd which is the 15th episode and they haven't done anything yet!!! They need to follow the damn storyline!!!

FY actually kept pretty close to the storyline of the manga but AnC went down the drain after the 6th episode

I agree with you both, but I don't know about the FY anime, cuz I haven't seen it, at least, not yet.

The manga of AnC was so much better! Why did they have to change it? WHY!!!! It was much more funnier in the manga. And I've only read the first volume, too. and i'm up to the 6th episode...

I recently finished ANC myself and I too found it a bit second rate. I guess I wasn't its target audience but still I found it rather exploitive, I am getting thoroughly fed up with female leads being useless unless they get the bone of their love interest and this is definately a must see for all you date rapists out there as it goes a long way to say molesting a girl is okay just so long as you like her and apologize afterwards.

The story was interesting enough for me to watch it to the end but I couldn't find myself feeling for any of the characters in this. I was just so happy to see a certain person bite the dust in such a violent manner, although in context that ended up being unsatisfying anyway.

AnC wasn't a great series, but it was somewhat interesting. I personally did not like FY all that much, and I consider AnC better than FY, only because it is creepier. It's a bit second rate, because in the end I ended up hating the main characters.

i haven't read the manga, but i want to. there were a few confusing parts in the anime, but it was better than FY. that's what I thought.

*shrugs* it wasn't a great series, but it was interesting.

Actually I liked the series yet the ending and how the story went on as it was about to be finished was a bit disappointing. I hoped they've made it even longer. I also wished that aya has her own powers. Like that hot lady ..Aogiri???(I think!!??) who has psychonesis or something>>

The storytelling in AnC was loads better than in FY, but it lacked horribly in character development. I followed the anime to the end to find out how it all, well, ends, and I wasn't disappointed. ^_^ The FY characters however were more lovable and interesting compared to the AnC characters.

EXACTLY!!!! Finally I am not the only one who feels this way! Why can't Watase's heroines be happy WITHOUT having sex? Staying a virgin was so heart-wrenching for Miaka and Aya doesn't think about anything but sex with Tooya. (exageration here but not that far from it...)

Is all that really necessary? Why can't she have a relationship with a man that DOESN'T involve sex and being a love interest?! Why must all of Watase's work be like that?! There's nothing wrong with a touching friendship. Sex and love is all fine and good, but it pisses me off how EVERYTHING has to turn to sex. (Although, there IS a reason for this in Ayashi no Ceres. SPOILERS*** As Ceres explains, the goal of the tennyo is to create descendants, so she uses a sexy body as "bait" to catch the best men. Aya's a love bomb waiting to happen. Of course every man is just succumbing to the plan. I still think the larger pattern has to do with the author Watase's ideals however.)

Ceres was a strong female character who could take care of herself and win a fight. But no!!!! Watase just had to throw Tooya in there and make him do all the fighting and "protecting". All women do not need to be "protected" all the time, especially in those final episodes. It would have been so much nicer if Ceres took matters into her own hands from the beginning.

I have MAJOR issues with the scene where Yuuhi forces himself on Aya and nearly rapes her. What so they can still be friends?!? Aya still feels safe sleeping in the room next to him?! Everyone JOKES about it and isn't concerned? I couldn't believe it when Aya basically said "He could rape me right now and I can't stop him, but I don't care I kinda like it". WTF?!?!

I used to think Yuuhi was a real hottie, but after that scene he is NOT respectable. I think that scene was very out of character for him. He was supposed to be the nice guy who would never hurt her and wants to protect her, but that scene doesn't fit that. Really none of the males are that commendable in this anime either. Come to think of it, the men's lack of morals, mental weakness (Aki), greed, and lust make them worse than the women...

Aya's shower scene where she says that she can't live without being in the strong arms of a man also had me very fed up. I'm no feminist, but that is just PATHETIC! If that's the typical Japanese woman's mindframe and perceived role, I am shocked.

The story was interesting enough for me to watch it to the end but I couldn't find myself feeling for any of the characters in this. I was just so happy to see a certain person bite the dust in such a violent manner, although in context that ended up being unsatisfying anyway.

Agreed. Every episode was definitely a cliffhanger. Perverse enough to keep me watching I guess. And to be honest, I did like watching it overall.
