This is a silly observation I had about Kirika-chan's use of a handgun that probably no one will really care about, but whatever I felt like starting a discussion thread in the Noir forum and y'alls can't stop me! Bwah hah hah hah! Okay, I'm bored......
Okay, I don't care what model handgun Kirika is using, but it's almost completely impossible for her to be able to be that accurate with it. And it has nothing to do with skill; her hand would just be shaking too much from the weight of the gun.
Women have problems with handguns using the straight-arm position; usually a different position is used, like a two-handed grip or using supports. There is just too big an upper-body stregnth difference for women to be able to keep their grip as steady as men, even when using relatively light handguns.
Of course, there are some women have the upper body stregnth to handle it, and some make up for the deficit by developing their bicepts through weight training. This is the case with women who compete in shooting tournaments in the like. However, look at K-chan's skinny-little chicken arms! Even by women's standards, Kirika-chan is pretty small and doesn't seem to have any muscle developement. If a woman Kirika-chan's size actually tried to hold that model handgun in real life-and i don't care if this girl had intrinsic skill as a marksman-her hand would be shaking all over the place from the wait of the gun, and she wouldn't be able to hit anything.
Why bother pointing this out, especially in an anime that is more about style than realistic combat? Well, it's just something I've noticed after watching a few anime featuring gun toting femme fatales, I think it gives viewers a completely warped sense of how firearms really are used. Becoming a competent marksman takes years of your life, and no matter how naturally talented you are, you may have to cross-train to develop your muscles to the point where your aim is not compromised by the weight of the gun. Even men have this problem if they are not in shape, since even a rock-solid aim will begin to quiver if it has to be held for any legnth of time.
A good example of the gun-toting girl done right is Rally Vincent from Gunsmith Cats, you see exactly how large a chunk of her life shooting takes up, with things like reloading and actually taking care of her guns, and she is drawn being in excellent shape with some musculature.
Interesting side-note, women actually do have an advantage in rifle shooting, at least in tournaments, because offhand (standing) position involves balancing the rifle on your chest. That coupled with a different center of gravity often leads to some of the highest scorers in light-rifle shooting being female. So if Kirika was lugging a rifle around with her throughout the series, I would have no complaints.
Besides, wouldn't that be cool, Kirika carring around a rifle with a deadpan expression??????
Please don't kill me Noir fans! I'm just saying Kirika needs to go to the gym! Really! Oh, and sometimes she tilts her gun at a .45 degree angle when she shoots people-bad idea, it looks cool and stuff but there's a really high probability that depending on the model, you could get yourself in the eye with hot shell-casings popping out of the chamber. She should just not do that.
