Gatt's is stupid. First, he should have at least worn a mask that will cover his face. NOooOo, he wears a hood instead. What good would that do if it falls off? Well, it eventually happens and Yurius actually recognizes him...
He is able to quietly sneak in the room but he can't run away unnoticed when someone opens the door! Now, because he isnt wearing a mask or any form of covering to hide his face, Yurius unfortunately has to die. Poor Adonis... tsk tsk...
I don't know how he sneaked in the room, but shouldn't he have sneaked out the same way? NOOoOOo... he storms out where the guards are going to be heading from, the passageways that lead to Yurius' quarters. Now he has to kill the rest of these guards.
I'm quite surprised he wasn't named at all. You'd think that from a distance, someone would have spotted him.

Says Nair:

I think Gatts wanted it that way. Therefore, Yurius would understand why he was being murdered...for daring to try to assassinate Griffith.

Adonis' murder is probably the most painful thing I've seen in an anime in a long time. The lad by no means should have died...and that is one of the reasons why I like Berserk so much. Because...
I don't know how he sneaked in the room, but shouldn't he have sneaked out the same way? NOOoOOo... he storms out where the guards are going to be heading from, the passageways that lead to Yurius' quarters. Now he has to kill the rest of these guards.
...Gatts panics after the murders. Although I have no idea if he's tried assassination before, it's obvious that he's perfectly fine with it until he's actually killed the target and becomes discovered. He apparently didn't plan on things not working out perfectly, which in the end, cost him points with the audience, a very gutsy thing to do. I applaud the writers and the director for doing it. It's more realistic because Gatts is no ninja. He's a walking battering ram.
I'm quite surprised he wasn't named at all. You'd think that from a distance, someone would have spotted him.
I do agree that it would have been more realistic to have someone name him as a suspect. That way, they could have Griffith demonstrate his influence with the King by defending him in public.

Dritzzten's right. Gatts had never assisnated anyone before, so he didn't know ho to do it. He had always faced his opponents on the battlefield before, where they saw each other face-to-face and met with blades. This was a cold-blooded killing that Gatts performed. He wouldn't have killed the kid, I think, if he had thought things through, but, like Dritz said, he panicked, and ended up killing the child without thinking. If you'll notice, after he saw his huge sword impaling the kid through the shoulder and into the wall, he suddenly realized what he'd done, and it horrified him. Gatts had never killed anyone unless they tried to kill him first, let alone an innocent young kid. After that he heard the guards coming and that ended up killing most of them, too.
As for being named a suspect, Griffith had a lot of supporters in the nobility, including the king himself, and going up and accusing Griffith of the murder was too risky.
Ditto to what Drizzten and Shenrezade said.
And....
Something much like your comments when thru my head when I watched this scene. But despite being a stupid, sloppy assassination, it also showed that Gatts is just human and has his faults. He can kill 100 men on the battlefield, but stealth and split second decisions when facing crisis are not definitely not his strong points.
I agree with what has been said, although in all honesty how many people run around swinging a 10 foot sword? Well, maybe it was dark, and most of the people who got a glimpse of him ended up dead anyway.

It would be better had Gatts calmly knocked on Yurius' door, had a small chat offered him a drink, then slyly slip a poison pill in his champagne.
But then again it's not Gatts' style to do that,he prefers to bludgeon everyone to death. The death of Adonis was shocking, but since he was a witness, and Gatts was so infatuated with helping Griffith, that he killed the kid anyway without thinking.Still, must have weighed on his conscience for a while.
And here's a corny phrase:Gatts is a stupid moron when it comes to thinking, but he's a genius at combat.
