**Wooohooo**, It's the one that got me started.
Haven't read the manga's yet. I still enjoy it today, because I feel it's gotten better with age.

I love it... the action, the plot, the EVERYTHING. Kenneda is so fun! You have to love that guy.

Just kidding, Akira is second best anime movie ever made (Grave of the Fireflies being the first) and my favorite anime of all time. Not much compares to the energy, design, and imagination put into this chaotic piece of storytelling.
And if anyone has any questions, I can answer them. I study Akira like some study Evangelion. I probably know more than most would admit to knowing about that movie ^_^

In that case, PA, explain the connection between the destruction of Tokyo and Akira the boy. I never really figured it out.

i love his bike Yeah, the bike scenes are the best part! A milestone to the anime world, and one of my favs. It may be years old, but has even been remastered on DVD for it's rebirth. For just an anime movie, this thing is known worldwide by any and all anime fans! :D I'm glad a sequel was never made. Sequels usually ruin a work o' masterpiece. Some still may not care for it much unfortunately. The way I see it, there are those of Star Wars likes and those of Dungeon and Dragons likes. I happen to be into sci-fi, baby! Fantasy is alright too...

You really have to read the Manga to get the whole story behind the boy Akira... The movie doesnt help much with that little issue! If you do it will help you out a lot of your confusion.

I personally thought the character designs were hideous for Akira. Though, damn Kaneda's bike was f*ckin sweet. Anywho...Akira would have been beter as an OVA, not a movie. I still need to read the mangas, which I will eventually by god!

I got the special edition tin box DVD set, it has a remarkable extra DVD with enough material to keep you drooling for hours.

I never really figured it out. *takes in deep breathe and prepares to explain* Think of it as the following if you will. Like Tetsuo after him, Akira could not control the growing power inside of him. Whereas Tetsuo could contain his power (though at the cost of deforming his own body), Akira lacked the intelligence and maturity to do so thereby releasing the energy that he had as an explosion that devastated Tokyo and then NeoTokyo. At the end of Akira, Akira had transcended a human and material form to become, remember this is theoretical and would go with the them of the movie, the final stage of human evolution. Because energy can be neither created nor destroyed, Akira still had the amount of power that he "left" the world with when he first destroyed NeoTokyo.
I hope that helped Drizz ^_^
