Well, I haven't see it, and from all I've read, it's excellent, so I'll be lookin' forward to it.

Alas, Patlabor 2 is not as funny as the first movie - it's more political and depressing, although still interesting and with action bits. But amusing when they try to get the "old team" back together.

So is the first Patlabor movie is funny? i thought Patlabor is a seroius anime, or is there just more funny bits in it??

Yeah it's serious.

But there's some lighter moments like when they go all SD during an argument, or the guys get all bloody-nosed (well, not really, but close enough) when the Noa and Azuma go out for dinner :)

I can't recall Patlabor 2 (or the first one) ever being televised on SBS.....

Anyhoo, I recently got to see the first half hour of Patlabor. Pretty good, but I wish I had the chance to complete it. :dodgy:

Well i decided to rewatch it again.

I didnt mind that there was only about 20 minutes of Labor action near the end and a bit at the beggining.

But the story was great, it was a bit slow but i dont mind.

Hopefully SBS will screen movie 1 :)

Well I saw it last night for the first time, and I have to say it was pretty good. It was just so compelling, even if there wasn't that much action. Glad i saw it actually.

I like no#1 much better than 2. Find it abit boring for me, interesting in the 'why', 'how' and 'what could be', but still boring...

NOT ENOUGH MECHA ACTION!!!!

this was an excellent film in my opinion, but it took a completely different direction to Patlabor I think (kinda sketchy on the plot of the first one these days)... I think the first one was a show case of science fiction and technology, hence the liberal spoonings of mechas, and the tower of Babel plotline

I found this story to be a more pertinent social and political comment on the 'international community', very intelligently written with music and directing that somehow reminded me of Ghost in The Shell

I noticed that as well. It very much reminded me from GitS. Especially the way some of the characters looked zoned out in some scenes. And the gazing off into the distance.

gah...i missed it :(....i also missed most of Ghost in the Shell :( ....why is it that whenever they are showing anime on tv, that i find someway to miss at least the first half? the same thing happened with macross 2...twice....i need to pay more attention to what's going on.....

well, the only anime movie which was ever on t.v. here in Holland, was Akira, and it wasn't even aired on a Dutch tv station, but on a Belgium one. :(

Also the tone of voice taken up by the characters when they did those monologues on the boat - it seemed to me that this scene was transposed into Ghost in the Shell (though obviously with a different context in mind) after whatsername goes scuba diving
