OK then, as you all know, I am a space battle fanatic, and i must say one thing.

The Vandread Second Stage final Spacebattle wins my Space Battle of the Month award hands-down. The sheer size and feroicty of combat, coupled with the great character design and animation quality (not to mention the brilliant quality of my fansub) makes it one of the most enjoyable spacebattles i have seen in a long time.

We have the classing capital-ship and escort-fighter combinations, the heavy fire of captials and super-captials, the sharp manouvering and swarm tactics of strike craft and fighters, the whining of heavy beam and rocket fire, the awesome might of the Boss-ship's Mega-ultra-Death cannon, the cool popping-up of shield generators, and the cold shower I had to take after watching it.

A Big congratlations to Gonzo and the Vandread Second Stage team on their excellent work and brilliant spacebattle, and I look forward to more of their work in the future.

god but I love space combat.

Yeah,that was a great battle!

And Gascogne's job was much easier now that she can control all those little repair robots.Wich is funny since I remember in the early episodes of the first stage, when she first faces the earth machines she says "You're good,I'd almost want you in my crew"

ah yeah i remember that  yeah that battle was so cool, it was practically everyone, the women, men, pirates, rabat and his crew, and miridas (i forgot the name of the ppl) all came to help hibiki to kick some alien ass :D yeah i admit that was the best battle ive seen so far. im not sure there were any other great battles as this one. all of them were kinda one on one fights. i guess the best fight was when the dreads transformed to the super dread (yeah i call it that :heh: ) and killed the evil nirvana

As a Babylon 5 fan I was greatly reminded of the "Alliance" ships fighting the Shadow ships, with all the different kinds of weapons going. It was definitely a sight to see, to see everyone unloading on them....

There are lots of favorite moments I have. I have to say that this and the last battle from first season are among those I liked the most.

ah yes... the babylon 5 space battles. Some of the ones in In The Beginning and A Call To Arms are cool... such as during the Shadow War, with the White Star fighting a shadow ship... the white star is about to be trashed when WHAM two solid red beams of death streak out and smack into the shadow, sending it flying.. and out comes the Narn ship with G'Kar at the helm... I love that scene.

Can it match with the firsy battle of Mars on Nadesico

Those space dogfights are so intense it actually makes you think that the good guys could very well die in some of them.

And some even do.

hehe, well in battles there is always a causalty. thats the way it goes

But the space battles of other anime feel so choreographed that although awesome to watch, lacks any intensity for you just know the heroes will pull through.

Vandread stands out as one of those animes that leave you uncertain to the survival of the leads, and that is good. :)

Note in the backgrounds the massive explosions... yet no reports of casualties.

Note the malouseum like volume of photos deticated to dead pilots that the old captain keeps. Presumably representing the inevitable fatalities that occur here or there.

yeah i remember that, a lot of photos....

yes, but mind you those casualites are from over 10 years of activity, judging by Meia's age when she joined. So thats inevitable.

Mind you, probably the relevant fleets where receiving casualty reports... those anti-earth guys probably took a beating.

and I do like the anti-earth "bending beam" weapons. Good system. Most delicate part of any beam-based weapon is the projection lense, so protecting them by mounting the weapon batteries in the side of the ship reduces impact cross-section considerably.

Sad how they are the only equivlent of gravestones for soldiers who die fighting in space. :bawling:

yeah, but i guess they cant do much about it, they do live in space so i guess thats the only way to move on

anyhow off this sad mood hmm the anit earth laser huh, i dunno too much on that expcept like u said it bends :heh:

yes... I would say that the gravity-generation equipment that "bends" the beam forward would be mounted in the small wings at the rear of the vessel. This would allow the projectors (which, unlike beam weapon projectors, can be armoured) to "push" the beam forward. Fighters dogfighting around the vessel would probably also be shoved forwards too... micro-control over the projectors would make a good point-defense weapon.

ahh i se, very complex :D

A bit offtopic... but is there anyone else who just loves the battle scene in episode 3 of 2nd stage? It's the first time that Nirvana uses it's ultimate weapon... It's so damn majestic and powerful scene. (You kinda get that Star Trek feeling.)

Aha! You finally agre that its a beam not a missile!

There are lotza deaths you see weaked ships floting around during the battle.

tekblade

A really powerful moment that marked Bart's transition from stupid to serious. :)

"And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."

- Genesis

So, I'd go even further. Just look at his face and listen to his voice, when Bart screams "Get off this planet!". Isn't that the reflection of pure majestic power and totally selfless courage? Isn't that the reflection of God upon Bart's face that moment? And all it took was a little sick girl to protect.

The courage given by love can rival the might of entire armies. :) :bawling: :)

It's just unimaginable what kind of power the Nirvana and it's crew posessed. Without them, the Vandread universe would've had a very sad future.

hmm yeah, but i wonder what happened if they didnt have that weapon and only relied on the super dread ? ( yeah im talken about all of the dreads combined for the white one ) hmm it is true emotions can be the number one key for an controllable nor stoppable person going all out

Ronin Aquila

Its really uplifting that unlike series like EVA, emotions like love, courage and honor give one power as opposed to hate anger and dispair.

Yes, its a theme I like about vandread... when everybody is thinking of sacirifcing themselves for others, great things happen. Note at the final confrontation... Hibiki and the evil kid, both armed with basically super-weapons (the vandguard and the red plexis)...

Hibiki: The difference between you and me... is that I HAVE LOTS OF FRIENDS!!

Because he had people he cared about relying on him, Hibiki could draw further into his stores of courage and defeat that which came up against him. Unlike eva where its "ARRRGH I HATE YOU!" and the eva goes nuts...

Vandread is basically the manifestation of the greatness of mankind - as long as there are determined fearless men, who are willing to sacrifice their life for the sake of others, the "dark side" will never have a chance. And it's most touching, how the Nirvana crew understands day by day, that they've been misguided and held in the darkness, and how they will become the only beacon of light in the universe - the only group of people, where man and women co-exist, and the only group who has enough will and power to take the challenge.

People with a reason to live are stronger than those who don't. :kawaii:

So true. And true power is gained through love, selfless care for others and... friendship.

You should be more correct in this stament.

The females contributed as mcuh if not more than the males in this .

I think that Scanned meant "homo sapiens" when he said "men" in that statement...

I agree that the message of vandread is that with love, caring for others and determination we can overcome whatever is put in our path without resorting to hatred for strength.
