You know after Tetsuo enters the bar asking for capsules? Well after that when Yamagata and Kai go into the bar and they see the bartender? Well he has this box by him that says, when translated:
THIS SIDE UP
(TENCHI MUYO)
Can someone explain what this means?

Tenchi Muyo actually means, this side up or something about being upside down. It's on a Tenchi website so no, this is not a reference to the anime series of the same name.

Basically, Tenchi Muyou means no need for heaven and earth. Add some old-chinese logic (kanji are chinese characters after all) and voila: this side up (something like the object is placed on earth, but is facing heaven or something)
