I am soo angry that they are changing the name of Kare Kano, which easily tranlates to His and Her Circumstances, to some wierd, Tale of blah blah High... I might ask WHY!?

I am basically starting some kind of petition against this... i would appreciate it if you responded with your feelings toward this horrific americanization...

*sings* "i hate america..."

As far as I know, the final decision was to trash the Tales of Thingimajigg High title and go with His And Her Circumstances.

So, yeah, rejoice.

yay 4 america~

The "Tales of North Hill High" name isn't something that the US licensors came up with, it's what Enoki Films came up with. They are a Japanese-based company that acts as a middle-man between Japan and the US and hawks anime series to the US - so it's the Japanese that came up with the name ^^; They're also responsible for naming Saiyuki "Paradise Raiders" :P

oh, well im sure that it had something to do with the way the us broadcasting companies work... other wise why would they take the time to come up with really stupid names that dont even mean anything close to what the origional title meant?

lol and dont think that this is the only reason i dont like america... there are plenty more reasons...

oh and one more thing. does anyone know why they just dont keep the origional japanese names? it seems that they wouldnt have to go throught the american anime fans hating butchered names if they just left the names in japanese or translated them exactly... i mean His and Her Circumstances is a good name, and it really fits the description of the story... why would they even think of changeing the name to something that has nothing to do with the story? and sometimes they are pointless like Card Captor Sakura to the really really messed up americanized version :redhot: CardCaptors? :smash:

What are you trying to point out Buihner? The name of the title isn't being changed... so no need to worry already. Yea... CCS was butchered... but it was more then the title that was butchered. If you really have such an issue you can just stick to buying uncut DVDs instead of watching what you get on TV (anything shown on tv is edited anyways.... go with it if you have no cash ya know?). Name changes of characters in stories happens b/c some companies do that in order to make it appeal to more people who aren't as picky as the hard core anime fans. Other then that.... I think you just went on a rant right? :confused2 Hope I at least put to rest some of you apparent worries that seems to have been vented out in that post of yours.

... i said i was content now that the rumor is no more... i heard something, i got mad, someone corrected me and now i am ok... but that still doesnt change the fact that some of the butchering done for the US really ruins people view of anime as a whole. i mean... america knows anime as dbz and pokemon... that is not good...

as for the kare kano thing... i am kewl with that now... i understand...

Understandable that the current public view of Anime is rather limiting and that many people, in general, view anime as either A.) Cartoon Porn) or B.) Strictly for the kiddies (thank you Disney!).

Even with KareKano being released, or any other anime show with actual relevant topics and views on relationships or anything else on a slightly thought provoking level, will most likely still be neglected and only viewed by those who know better. Glad to know your cool and understand... but I think you should have started this sort of topic in General Anime... you'd prolly encounter more replies and have more people share their point of view with you.

Buihner, I love your sig. I hope you don't mind if I copy the last part of it.

Buihner, you keep on saying it as if America -in general- is to blame for any and all change or censorship in anime, and you're WRONG. Sure, some TV executives are moronic and decide to butcher anime, but that has nothing to do with America as a whole.

I agree with CAT, Buihner. Condemning an entire country as for censorship and neglecting to acknowledge that it exists in other countries as well as in other forms of entertainment (music, movies, games) is just plain narrow minded. But, as it was mentioned earlier, this is something for GA and has been discussed numerous times there.
