Ranma and his/her family

in Ranma ½, why is it that Ranma turns into a Boy/Girl and his brother turns into a Boy/Goose, and his Father turns into a Man/Panda???
Is it something in there jeans or is it a curse or something???
And was dose it have to be in contact with water???
Why not something else???
How long is it before they can change back???
If Ranma has a shower, dose he keep turning into a Male/Female every 2 seconds???
If they have a drink of water do they change or is it only if the body or head gets wet???

Sheesh... Ranma (and most of the characters) fell into the cursed spring of dead girl which is a spring which a girl drowned in. So now whenever he touches cold water, he turns into a girl. Hot water and he becomes a guy. Other characters turn into cat, pig, panda, duck...

Ranma does not have a brother. The guy who turns into a duck is Moose, who is in love with Shampoo. She turns into a cat.
Like Wolfpac said, they went to China to a place called Jusenkyo and each fell into a different cursed spring, depending on the last thing that fell into the spring is what form you assume.
When they get hit with cold water they turn into their Jusenkyo form, hot water reversed the effect until next time.
Yes, if he has a shower he will chane depending on whether he washes with hot or cold water.
They can drink whatever without changing, it's only if they get splashed that they change.
For goodness sakes, watch the series or read the manga, then you won't have to ask such basic questions.

Don't blame me, blame the Video shop I go to. All they have is two Volums (4 episodes) and they didn't tell me much at all.
It just said Volum 1 + 2.

Christopher, maybe you could visit some web sites or something, perhaps go to your local library and request some manga-they're a surprisingly good source for that sorta thing.

all those questions are answered if you just go to a place like anipike and search through those sites for the info. i do admit many of them are useless shrines and image galleries, but there are some really good informative sites out there.

I can't remember if it is mentioned in the anime but I know it is mentioned in the Ranma 1/2 manga.

Wolfpac. . . taking a guess. . . I think that the first four episodes you saw were actually the first four OAV episodes, since they're already showing Mousse ^_^;; (And you made the Christmas thread also)

Anyways. . . the first tapes of the first series explain the curse, and having seen those before the OAV series. . . would have helped ^^;;
