since i think that this board will be picking up the pace when YYH starts airing, i thought it would be nice if there was a thread about it, kinda like the 'Bebop on CN' thread on the bebop forum. also, i started this post early to be able to remind people to watch YYH in...two weeks!!!

i thought id make the first reply. if you guys are worried about how YYH will be 'butchered'...well, it wont! the tv-Y7 rating on CN's website is a typo accordint to some people un the AS message boards, and the guy from Funi (forgot his name) said that YYH is as close to uncut as possible. so all is good:)

was watching CN today, and saw some commercial for this anime

or at least i think it was

but with an anime starting w/ "yu yu" i dont think i can get it wrong

but i haven't seen it

is it good?

to fill you in, you might want to read the posts above (spoiler-free). but to be exact, it airs the 23rd of February, Next Saturday at 11 pm.

and heres what it is about (i just copied and pasted on what i wrote on another page):

YYH is about a young boy named yusuke, he has a reputation of being the 'badass' of his school. one day, he dies saving a young kid from a running car. moments later, he finds out, that he wasnt supposed to die and the kid was supposed to walk away from the accident without a scratch; from an agent named botan. well, ill stop right there becuase some of the info are kinda blurry becuase its been forever since i last saw YYH. here are some facts though, YYH in japan generated at least 20 million viewers each week, the only show more popular that YYH at the time was...dbz. well if you want more info on YYH, yuyuhakusho.com has really good summaries and character profiles.

funimation sent me an email prmoting YYH on cartoon network. i thought that was weird.

ok, now i'll give you guys the lo-down. Yu Yu Hakusho is rated TV-PG, unlike TV-14 which i stated earlier. it'll still be good though, most of theepisodes will still be uncut even in TV-PG. im sure theyd be able to keep the blood (since 0083 is tv-pg as well and they have a lot of blood), and judging from the commercial, theres a few cuss words.

anyway, just for some insights, i personally think this new saturday block will get bad ratings...not becuase they didnt re-edit OS and tenchi, but becuase of the competition on saturday nights, first, theres SNL and MadTV, then to add some more pressure, theres ESPN and fox sports net's saturday sports blocks (i normally watch this). and then theres MTV "The Hook UP", TNN's "Slammin Saturday Nights", and WWF Excess (which has been a ratings titan lately). i'd be really surprised if AS saturday gets good enough ratings.

anyhow, ill be posting my thoughts on the shows probably tomorow morning since im not going online at 1 am later (ill probably be out in the clubs anyway)

well, decided to skip bebop on AS since ive seen it already, heres what i thought:

Postive: Kept original music, kept eye-cather, and nice in-betweens

Neutral: err...the dub is semi-average, some people hate it, some like it, me myself, i like yusuke and kuwabara's voice, but i hate yusuke's mom's voice (voiced by the same VA of Android 18), botan's on the other hand is pretty fine to me, although she kinda has this accent for some reason

Negative: although Funi scores points for keeping the original music, the bad thing is they dubbed the original intro song and end song into english (like they did with dragonball and Blue Gender)

well all in all, its really great. its been ages since i saw the first episode (7 years ago, i havent seen it since then) and its amazing how i forget things.

Speaking as someone whose first experience with YYH came tonight, I must say that the dub is quite standard Funimation stuff. Well, Yuusuke's voice is decent, but other than him...

I think I'll like this series. It's better than I thought it would be.

:lol: The funniest thing I saw on YYH is the VA they used for the girl with the pigtails. It sounded exactly like young goku on dragonball. The VA didn't even try to make new voice. I couldn't believe that voice was coming from that school girl.:D

I managed to stumble upon the new saturday AS, and I think YYH was... okay. I don't think I'd ever heard about it before yesterday, but it didn't seem too bad. I'll have to see more before I form an opinion. :)

well, it does turn into dbz later on, but it's not repetetive like dbz and fights dont take that long

the ones from the philippines are in filipino, so unless you can understand filipino, you can get them (where can i get them anywayz?) and the FUNi dub is really good according to most people.

I saw YYH on Saturday, and I was...unimpressed. The dub was less goofy than DBZ, but nothing to write home about. The story was all right; a little slow, but it WAS only the first episode ^_^; And that Yuusuke guy...I had the HARDEST time believing that guy in a "green jumpsuit" was a badass!

I have a question: how old is this show? The animation level reminded me of Urusei Yatsura, and it looked incredibly dated when shown back-to-back with Cowboy Bebop.

it was made 1992. the later episodes look pretty modern though. and it sounds less goofy than dbz becuase it is less goofy than dbz

What's wrong with green jumpsuits? It was just his school uniform but in a green color rather than a blue.:rolleyes2 Badasses can wear green jumpsuits if they want.

anyway, the first time i heard the english dubbed opeining theme, i thought it sounded ridiculous, but after watching YYH 3 times (i taped it), it got to me and it actually sounds good...better actually, the lyrics are precise. damnit, now its stuck in my head!

o yea, this show resembles Flame of Recca (errrr...the other way around) so if youve seen FoR, you'll like YYH.

That's Koenma. He's the one with the sucker. He's annoying sometimes but he's mostly there for humor... well, there's kuwabara too... I don't really like Koenma but he's a great character overall.

3 more days until episode 2 :( its such a long wait. anyway, the next couple of episodes i thought was kinda boring, until kurama and hiei get introduced and yusuke gets revived...well in the manga at least, i dont know how close the manga is to the anime but i was quite bored at that part of the series. its still good though

I have to say that after 4 or 5 episodes, I could care less about this series since it has a protagonist I could give a rat's ass about, falls into so many anime and storytelling cliches it's gets old quickly, and the fact that it moves as quickly as a glacier!!!

I'm just glad a masterpiece like Cowboy Bebop is after it to make me forget that mess.

I finally got to watch YYH on CN... I liked Yusuke's VA... but Kuwabara. I know he's supposed to sound obnoxious and irritating, but the VA sounds like a monkey. ><

yea, kuwabara's voice is a bit off, bit it just needs some getting used too (his VA sounds a lot more like Domon on Flame of Recca). i personally like botan's voice and keiko's too (she's voiced by Laura Bailey, one of the hottest (im serious) VA's ive seen, wendee lee might be the best VA, but in terms of real life looks, she doesnt hold a candle!)

as far as i could tell, they didnt edit any of the scenes out on gouki, kurama and hiei's raid (its been a while since i saw it uncut). id buy the dvd's but i think it'll be a waste since theyre already on tv and from what ive seen, nothing much was edited out (besides yusuke pulling up the skirt and touching the boobs of keiko). when i hear that kinda a lot was cut then i'll buy it

i just received word that this season of YYH would only last for 21 episodes, although funimation already dubbed past that (since the second season dvd's are already scheduled to come out in the fall). so that means it may take 4 or more months for new episodes to come out.

he doesnt. his spirit gun gets stronger every time. and kuwabara's too, at first, he's spirit sword looks messy, but when he gets stronger, his sword takes more of a shape of a sword

its a 112 episode series. im really not sure about the sagas, i only know about two (the ones ive only seen) which are the (im going by the Funimation names) Spirit Detective Saga which goes from ep. 1-21 then the dark tournament saga which goes from ep. 22-40-something.

bit of a newb as well but most of the fights have been shorter an more intriguing than most dbz fights.

its like that in the beggining, but the fighting gets real DBZ-ish in the mid-episodes and the battles are longer too. in my opinion, YYH battles are better than dbz, but dbz fights are more exciting and 'blood-pumping' as my friend likes to call it

I think that the YYH fights give you alot more drama throughout the fight, where the big "who is gonna win" for a DBZ fight is always about 3/4 the way through the fight.

Has there been any comments here over how good Funimation's dubbing has gotten (too lazy to read whole thread)? HUGE improvement over when they first started on DBZ. I'm usually hypercritical of dubs but I'm actually diggin' it here.

yea, i think i posted my comments back in...page 6 (or somewhere between pages 5-10). well anyway, the dub is really good, although i dont like hiei's voice.

well, it was planned a LONG time ago, Funi said a month before that the first season would only be 21 episodes. why you may ask? becuase they havent dubbed any more episodes, but i think theyre up to the 25's now, becuase eps. 22-28 is scheduled for december (the dvd's) so i would say the new season would start around...mid september (for the US, we dont go into reruns until July)

cant remember if i posted this here already...anyway Yu Yu is gonna go in re-runs and will end in episode 21. new episodes are expected sometime in november, or december when the re-runs end. if you think thats too long, well, the next saga that will go on air are eps. 22-60, thats 30+ episodes so i say its worth the wait

well not really screwing us, thats been the plan all along, back when YYH was reported to be on CN, they said first season was 21 episodes and the rest will be next season. and keep in mind that this is FUNimation, they dont just dub all 112 episodes in a week. i really dont care, as long as Funi does a good job at YYH (which they are), then i really could care less how long it takes.

Ne wayz there was a scene where Kuwabara says his sprit sword can kick the crap out of yusuke's sprit gun..of course yusuke then says something like "remind me to test that one day"

well I was looking at my tv screen soo hard that I noctied yusuke whole hand moving..ya know "Funimation edit style" moving..

So I was wondering did yusuke give kuwabara the finger or was my cheap ass tape acting up becuz of bad tracking?

nope, no edit there, i noticed this too and i emailed Justin cook (voice of yusuke) and he said it wasnt an edit, and also, he said that Funimation WONT edit "the finger"

i thought id address the issue here...you guys probably heard of AS expanding into weeknights, the schedule has Bebop and Inu Yasha in it with YYH nowwhere to be found. what does this mean? no one knows. but theres a couple things im sure of, YYH IS NOT canceled. it'll show up...somewhere. it could show up in Toonami, but Funimation, i believe, has already been prepping season 2 to AS, so theres still a chance that CN will give it a spot in AS.

finally, new YYh was supposed to have a tentative of November 23. im not sure if CN is even planning on airing it at that date

I was so touched...
