Well Cloakactive it's true Chobits is being animated!!!

It is being animated by madhouse who are doing a wonderful job on the x tv series

The first episode is due to screen the day before the first ep of .Hack

On another topic is the manga being t/l above chapter 9 which is the last one ishin-manga released before it got licensed

its hard to explain, its like a time were there are robotic females that sorta handle labors or are like servents. there called persocons and hideki the main charac ones into a special one and later on we find out its called a chobit, since it can act on its own without aprog. i dont know much more since im only up to vol 3 and cant understnad the japanese im reading :lol:

Ladies and Gentlemen, I hereby present the official discussion board for the new ultra-cute-and-sexy Sci-Fi fable by CLAMP callled "Chobits."

It concerns a frighteningly near future in which all computers have become humaniod in appearance. Though primarily a romantic comedy, it still presents chillingly relevant issues of man's growing dependence to and assimilation by technology in an intelligent and deep way that is typical of CLAMP.

Just an FYI, while i was on vacation I picked up the 4th issue of Chobits. I knew that this came out like 2 or so weeks ago... just never picked it up till now cuz i've been sorta... lazy. :) Now all I have to do is go back and read the 3rd manga (as soon as i find the time off of other things i've yet to finish. :sweatdrop: )

Speaking of the Chobits manga, does anyone here have those limited edition ones which came with free gifts? The first volume came with a mousepad, the 2nd a keychain, 3rd was a postcard holder and the fourth volume (the latest), came with a planner. I have all of them except the one with the keychain. :)

Anyways look out for a whole host of Chobits merchadise on the market now that the anime has been officially announced ;)

That 4th volume w/ planner=$$$$$ After getting the first 3 w/the gifts... I found its a lot easier on my wallet if I just get the manga w/o the gift... I'm a bit tight on cash right now after going on a little get away from Chicago. :heh:

I guess the store you got them from had run out of the ones with the free gifts. But cloakactive is right when he said that getting the normal volumes is cheaper than getting the ones with the gifts...so if you're on a tight budget go for the normal volumes :)

After reading the first few volumes of this manga recently, I can't wait for the series to begin in April. I got it a while back, but never got around to reading it until my roommate got bored and hijacked it off my computer and read it and told me how much he enjoyed it.

Hell, just a few days later he placed a preorder for it along with my Love Hina and Cowboy Bebop. He thought it was that good, and I'll agree that it's very interesting (and FUN!).

Just a reminder (cuz i'm pretty sure its been said), for those of you who haven't gotten a hold of the raw mangas of Chobits, Tokyopop did acquire the rights and will be releasing the first manga translated into english in april (last i checked).... so theres another good thing in April coming to us.

I had to reset so I viewed the partial download of Chobits (with Divfix) and the op rocks!

Hideki's VA is quite good IMO (saying hes going to tokyo while on the cow and his i must surf the internet for porn :lol: ) and the animation is by madhouse nuff said. I like what their done with the start of it it's not a carbon copy of the manga though as long as it follows the main storyline i'm not complaining

There have been many disappointing animes recently.....At any rate, Chobits was funny as all heck. I recommend this to anyon who has not seen it yet (Though something is telling me you all have).

I think four seiyuu from X are in this one as well. Hideki is voiced by Subaru's seiyuu. He's talented, to go from playing Catatonic Angst Boy to playing...well, a typical shounen hero.

Having seen some promotional art for the TV series, I'm quite pleased. The character designs are just as cute as in the manga. CLAMP is really strict about character designers getting their art just right, which is in their case a good thing.

Usually I find stuff out (anime wise) through the 'grapevine' or here, but for once I found out about Chobits a week or so ago on my own. ^.^; Chobits! XD I hope its good, I haven't been really pleased with the way CLAMP has been recently and am swaying from it and moving more towards my Utena/Yami no Matsuei/Fruits Basket obsessions. I just finished watching the first episode of Chobits. It was GREAT! Beautiful animation, great character designs, good seiyuus, loads of spicy humor and so vivid fanservice. =)

It's definetely the best release I've seen so far in 2002.

There are A LOT of humorous scenes in the first episode. Like Hideki yelling across the street "I want a persocon! I want to browse porn sites on the net!" and then turning around there's the ultra-kawaii landlady. Also the switching on and hiding Chii from his friend were hilarious... And I do mean Hilarious... Love Hina stylee hilarious.

I wouldn't go that far, but it's probably the most discussed first episode on all of AB ^^;

Yeah you should read the mana if you can, their got their differences its nice to compare and clamp will never let us down!

A few groups have done some of the earlier chapters of Chobits, most of them have stoped because the manga is now licensed. I believe the good people at ishin-manga and dual-translations translated volume 1 chapter 1-9 before it was licensed.

From what I understand, there is a "Chobits Manga Translation Project." They are currently on volume 3 chapter 32, as of today, and their project is still underway.

Watched Episode 1 a couple days ago and it was awesome seeing Chobits in animated form :) Am I the only person in here who thinks that Sumomo absolutely stole the show in Episode 1? She appeared for only about 20 seconds but that scene was as cute as hell :o Hope that the quality will be maintained for future episodes!

I love Sumomo! She -is- just about the cutest thing ever, isn't she?

For anyone who has kept up with other CLAMP anime, Sumomo-chan's voice is done by the same diversely talented woman to have voiced Li Shaoran of Card Captor Sakura and Nataku of X ^_^

And Westlo, concerning the lack of CLAMP's trademark bishounen, I point to Minoru. He may be young, but he is most definitely a "pretty" boy. It seems CLAMP just can't seem to create manga without somehow putting effeminate boys in there somewhere.

In my oppinnion it was one of the funniest to date. So far, it's about the same. There was a little nudity in the manga but there hasn't been any in the anime yet.

What I'm wondering is that, I've seen 4 episodes so far and they haven't gone past the first volume of the manga yet. I don't mind, but they seem to be taking a real relaxing pace (like the manga) so far.

The first DVD will be released on 2002/06/26 in Japan. The eighth (and last, I think) will be released January next year (2003).

I had high hopes for etheria when I first heard that they were subbing Chobits - actually, I had not heard of them before. But the result was somewhat dissapointing. Plus, I usually like to collect series done by the same fansubber. Its somewhat annoyng when quality, resolution, translation style ect. vary from episode to epsode. But I have to say that etherias channel is more lively then the avarage fansub distro channel, I've had some interesting conversations there, which is very rare event on irc nowadays :p

Ep 9 is a recap , frankly i dont see the need for such things , why would we need to rewatch scenes we've already seen?
Basically , there aren't any new frames in this episode , except when Shimbo and Sumomo are talking....There are some comments from Shimbo, but still, this is pretty cheap and pointless. They could have avoided this..... and next episode looks a bit dull too... oh well i'm done ranting :)

The best approach to a recap episode that I've seen was how Scryed handled it in episode 11 and 20. (They combined to be about one episode in lenght).

RahXephon did a good appraoch to recaps as well, making a special recap ep that didn't count towards it's 26 ep total.

Recap eps suck and are a blight on anime, and the worst thing is that Death and Rebirth is getting so much hype, what a load of crap that is.

It sounds to me like Chobits is travelling in the same direction as CLAMP's last anime series, X. The pacing is pretty bad here too, right? *sigh* Hopefully it'll pick up soon, they're only going for 26-ish episodes, I assume. It certainly would suck to see the same mistakes made in X's pacing be repeated here.

I generally don't mind a big change in style half way through an anime (see Eva). The fact that this was so sudden, with no real transition at all actually made me like the episode a little more than I might have otherwise. It's like happy, happy, happy, happy, BANG. I think it pulled off the effect it was going for, however now they are left with only a few episodes to make good on the change, I think (as in the case with Eva) that it can be done, however I do agree that they could probably have gotten rid of a few of those Happy's and changed the direction a little earlier.

My friend is getting the Manga imported, so I'll just borrow it off him when he is done. I've got too much other anime and manga to watch and read at the moment, not to mention Uni starting back, being thrown into Team Project 2, and also having to think about my thesis topic. Ahhh the life ^^

Hideshi is like a cross between the guy from Golden Boy and the ronin from Maison Ikkoku.

Im just curious as to which way this series is going to go. Whether it be retaining its cuteness or taking a turn into a more serious atmosphere as it seems like it is. This is clamp, I'm skeptical of a happy ending :o.

Well I just saw episode 20, and it might be meant to start at volume 4 of the manga, but there is still stuff from volume one in there. Like Yumi-chan talking about her "small" persocon and how it mad her "sad", that happened in chapter 8 of the first volume of the manga! I like where it is going though overall.

It's nice to hear that Chobits has picked up the pace, though it's weird that they are including things from volume one still, it's not like they didn't have enough episodes spent on volume one/filler.

Since it's moved onto Volume 4 now I'll be staying out of this thread now, I wouldn't want to be spoiled though I'm tipping for a sad ending.

As what I've seen so far in the anime, still leaves quite a bit to go in comparison to the manga.

The current fansub ep is now on volume 5 of the manga. Chobits manga is said to run for only 7 volumes so it's possible to finish it all up by 24 eps.

Also good to see Shimbo show his face again. Kotoko isn't half as scary as I originally thought that little evil persocon to be after she betrayed her master lol. She's pretty low key, she didn't want to participate in Sumomo's morning exercises :(.

Ah, just caught up to Chobits. I just finished episode 24. Wow, I dazzle at the 'wow' right now. Everything 19 and up is just amazing, it really picked up !

Anyway next ep (25) will be "Chii Decides". The one person for her..
On a interesting note. Every love interest Hideki had seems to have resolved itself, leaving him free for Chii. I wonder, will that happen or will the other (presumed to be) Chobits intervene. There are so many more questions. I'm so counting on a second series.

Hmmm while it would be good, no great if the second season of chobits came out let's say the same time as the first but next year I wuold prefer if they waited until the manga was concluded (if they aren't going to draw the manga out that is..)

I was looking at the previews that came with Hellsing vol 4. Chobits was on there but it was only the opening theme.:mad:

I've only read up to the third book and had fallen in love by the end of the first chapter. :inlove: Then today I found a music video all about Chobits, but it also didn't spoil anything for me, which is great (otherwise I'd go mad waiting for explanations!!!).
