Is Sailor Moon and Power Rangers the same???

Do you think that Sailor Moon is just like the Power Rangers???

No really, think about it. They start off just like a normal day, then the Main Villian (who won't show him/herself untill the final battel) sends down one of their home made goons to try to defeat them. If they tried to defeat them when their enemys wern't as strong as them, they would probally win, but because they send down less the ample opponents, they can built up their confordence to be ready for the final Battle.

But what makes Sailor Moon different from the Power Rangers is the last couple of episodes of the series. The battles are really good and intence. If anyone say the Future saga, where the scouts went into the future and the thing about cyrstal Tokyo, that's as good as alot of Anime I've seen.

That's just because it's the standard basic plotline to many shojo anime series and to many shows like Power rangers geared toward small children. It happens in US superhero cartoons too.

There have been loads of these types of shows in Japan. These team shows (senshi, I think, in Japanese) are all based on the same formula, a group of teenagers have secret super-powers and some sort of mecha that go round saving the world every week. Power Rangers & Beetleborgs are just two of a list of many...,
My personal opinion is that they're all crap, but somebody must like them....,

Comparing Sailor Moon to Power Rangers is kind of... weird. But there may be some actual logical truth behind this. I remember reading somewhere that Naoko Takeuchi the creator of Sailor Moon, loved a show very similar to Power Rangers in her childhood, I don't know tha name of it but it was her fav. she had said, and it kind of inspired her to make the anime she has become famous for like Sailor Moon.

In that case, it would have inspired her to make the -manga- she's famous for ^_^

But back to the topic: as it was mentioned earlier, it's a very common theme in that type of show to have a Monster-of-the-Day and a big bad guy. Hell, even the Vampire Princess Miyu TV series had something of a MotD theme (more like Shinma-of-the-Day). It's not inherently a bad thing, but it becomes one with shows like "Power Rangers" -_-

By the way, seeing as I never actually watched that piece of garbage, did the "Power Rangers" (that's nearly as retarded-sounding as "Sailor Scouts") ever have any sort of showdown with their head villain? If so, it couldn't have been nearly as great as Sailormoon's final battle with Chaos ^_^

Sailor moon almost became a true PR knock off...let me explain......

there was a fight of who would bring SM to the US Dic vs. Saban..... yes saban


Saban had plans of not dubbing it, but recreating sailor moon...........making it a half original animation/half live action show(thats right folks, live action)

I have actually saw the pilot of the half live action, half animated show that Saban wanted to produce. I will spare you the details except to say:

Luna = A real, fuzzy, persian cat.

Ami = Wheelchair bound, sterotypical, PC, handicapped character. You know the kind. Always got a "I am hadicapped but I can still do normal things." line worked in in nearly every sentence.

As for the compariuson, well, to understand it, you have to take into account the Sentai genre. Sentai (Team fighter) shows were mainly produced for boys in Japan and followed a cast of usually about 5 characters that either were heroes, or gained the ability to turn into heroes when needed.

The sentai concept is what the shows Power Rangers was pieced together from was based on. The sentai concept was primarily focused toward males, though there were female characters, such as in Voltron.

When Naoko Takeuchi originally developed Codename wa Sailor V and had it published in Nakayoshi (A shojo manga series.), she did so as a magical girl series. As time went on though, and she wrote Bishojo Senshi Sailormoon, a work based off Codename wa Sailor V in some ways, she decided to add a more sentai appeal to it by making it a team of magical girls and adding the more sentai "monster of the week" type element (This is also common in magical girls series, but Naoko had a nack for making it seem more "sentai" in her series.) into the series, she ended up with a book series about magical girls that also had a close semblance to the sentai shows that boys enjoyed.

This is quite likely what led to the great popularity of Sailor Moon since it had shojo elements that were attractive to young girls (Romance, older lovers.) and elements that were attractive to young boys (Team fighting and lots of action.).

With this she made a story that had appeal to a wide age group (The romance for older fans, the action for younger.).

So you see, the reason Sailor Moon and Power Rangers seem so similar is because at heart, their very genres (Magical girl and Sentai) were combined in the creation of the series Sailor Moon.

Power rangers was a great show at first. I used to watch it untill it got all cheap. I think that Power ranger and Sailor Moon are very alike. Like they do some tranforming into their suits. What else????

thats a problem of the series. the manga is much darker and has a better plot. not these one day, one episode and one monster stuff. :)

I read something similar. I thought I read somewhere that Naoko told the creators that she wanted to do something similar to Power Rangers, but an all-girl team.
