If Ranma½ is set in Japan, Why do they have a Christmas special???
I'm Pretty sure that they don't celabrate Christmas in Japan because there religion isn't Christainty, It they do, there just doing it to get a free holiday.

hmm..yeh, but then again.. japan was adminsitrated by the USA for a while after WW2, so maybe they kept some of the religion.. plus Evangelion and Patlabor both have biblical references..ahh hell I dunno.

I've only seen Ranma Christmas Scramble..I didn't really notice that there'd be no christmas in Japan.. (despite the fact I listen to the Mr Garrison song about Merry F!ing Christmas)

Well, the Tendos may actually be Christian. At least Kasumi. If you look in the anime she sometimes wears a small gold cross arround her neck. also in modern japan even non-christians selebrate Christmas just to give gifts and be with family. You know how japanese love to shop ^_^.

well there's also this thing I downloaded after hearing about it somewhere in the evangelion forums, called kodomo2.avi ro soemthing.. anyways
it's an ad for a Tomy product, I can't understand the japanese but it's clear they're selling for Tomy and I hear the word christmas distincively..so I guess it's a holiday for japanese,, just not a christian orientated one. it's not like many western societies remember christ at christmas anyways. and the word Xmas is appearing more often too. Plus the easter egg is being replaced a lot more by bunnies and bilbys

Cheep Bastards, having a Holiday for no reason

isn't that a little rude? I just pointed out that most of the western society also has a holiday 'for no reason'. I think there's plenty of damned reason, jesus or none. At least they aren't frauds pretending to be christian like a lot of the western society. Xmas, Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, little helpers, reindeer...it's all a heap of crap if you wanna view it from a christian perspective. Should we condemn ourselves for not being french yet writing so many stories about Saint Nicholas?

I'm sure every country celebrates Christmas in some form, even if it isn't called Christmas there. So, it's acceptable for the Tendos to have a Christmas party. :)

Eh-hm.

Keep in mind, of course, that most've the population of Japan belongs to two religions (i.e.-one person practices both Shinto AND Christianity). That'll explain almost everything. ^^

Patlabor focuses on the old Testament not the new. So its not actually christianity. There are afew religions that still accept the old testament.

Actually, I think any society has a right to celebrate Christmas. Back before BraveHeart days, in Scotland, the Scottish, when battling, would chop the heads of their enemies of and put them on the tops of trees and use the enemies intrels(guts) to wrap around the tree. Now, the christian monks wanted to help the pagan Scotts find God so the incorporated some of the Scottish ways, Putting enemies body parts on trees, by putting pretty little decorations on the tree instead and doing a half and half of everything.
