my opinion it's eva
i would have to agree...
there is the occassional good track though.
ATh
Eva's opening theme sounded like the swedish entry in the eurovision song contest. For those of yiu that don't know what that is it means it's bloody awfull:p

I watched Eva on VHS the first and second times, rented from the video store. At the time I paid little attention to the music and got carried away in the anime itself.
I bought the DVDs a while back, but did not watch them straight away. I was busy with other anime.
Going back to them now (I am watching the DVDs through) I am begining to realise that the music was not really the equal of that I have seen in other series.
To be sure its not the worst! :)
I do, however, like the opening music quite a lot. It worked for me.
But I am finding it is less than stellar, though it still serves its purpose well enough.
Watching it over is also causing me to realise once again what a great series it is.
By the way, Eddy, I like your sig...hehe.
I did'nt know i had one..but thnaks anyway!^^

Hehe.
You do have one, this is it:
"There's a molester in our bathroom!"-Ramna 1/2
"There's a molester in your bathroom"-Oh my Goddess
"Akito! come join me in the shower!-Nadesico
But perhaps you can not see it because you have them turned off in User CP? Under Options?
If you can't see anyone else's sigs either, that might be the case. Can you see "Pat Nene-chan ^_^" under my posts?

Evangelion...it's just...eh.
Honestly, I can't think of another anime with really overrated music.

c'mon, the eva theme song isn't THAT bad... not great, but surely not up there with abba! *tsk tsk*
although i do find the english lyric translation a little worrying...

You talking opeing themes..., or the entire OST in general...?
If you're talking about all the music for a series.., then yeah.., I'd have to agree.., Evangelion is over rated in that respect..., I've got the S2 Works..., & most of the tracks on it are utter garbage..., the classical pieces are nice.., as are some of the BGM's..., the rest is just filler-bunny...,
If your talking about opening themes..., then I'm not so sure...,

IMO, asides from the several good pieces littered throughout the EVA OSTs, the only good OST out of all of them is the Refrain one. .

the original songs in Eva aren't all that amazing. and the Kenshin and Trigun soundtracks are definitely overrated.

How can people say that Cruel Angel's Thesis is bad? Maybe it's overrated, but it's still the best theme song I've ever heard in any anime.
The most overrated music in anime, specifically, is Sakura Saku from Love Hina. It sounds like static, the singing is squeaky and annoying.
Dragonball Z's bgm is way overrated by DBZ fans. They always say, "listen to the original music, it's way better than the dub," but the original music isn't good, doesn't fit the scenes, and has waaaay too much brass.

As far as overrated soundtracks go,Tenchi Muyo's music is pretty weak as well. Some songs are kinda catchy but most of it is irritating. The Gundam Wing soundtracks are pretty lame too, though I kinda like some of the Two-Mix stuff.
I'd have to agree with everyone on the Eva series soundtracks as well. Most of it is completely filler. I really liked the End of Evangelion soundtrack though. The music was very well composed for that.
Other overrated soundtracks:
Rurouni Kenshin (The OVA soundtrack is amazing, but the series sucks)
Love Hina(yeah! more synth-Jpop sh*t)
Card Captor Sakura (too fluffy for me. I've always hated the series as well. bleh...)
Nadesico (eh.....The only song out of Nadesico I really liked was the ending song to the movie)
Utena (I don't like the stupid hardcore opera songs. Total trite! The movie soundtrack is just okay...I admit that I liked the opening theme dance mix)
Dragonball (ugh!!! I hate everything involved with this stupid series)
see you space cowboys.

I agree with Jordan about the Nadesico soundtrack. I don't know why so many people bought it. It sucked.
I didn't know the DBZ soundtracks were overrated. I thought everyone knew that they sucked.

I'd have to agree with the others about the Neon Genesis Evangelion music. It is indeed highly overrated. But I do like the themes a bit.

I must be one of the rare few who liked the filler tracks on S2 works..........I was in love with that set when I got it. Of course, it probably wouldn't have been that memorable on it's own without having seen the series. The only really weak songs are the normal BGM that play during the slow sections of the plot, and most BGM are completely unspectacular because their job is to literally blend into the background. The BGM that play during the fight scenes are supposed to be noticed though, and Eva had a few really good fight BGM. After I heard "the BEAST", I couldn't get it out of my head for days.
I think Cowboy Bebop has the most overrated music there is. Sure, the opening theme is great, the ED is great, and there are a couple of real standouts like "Call Me, Call Me" and "Green Bird", but a lot of the background tracks are just........blah. Granted, it's more eclectic in style than most anime music, but you can keep "Digging my Potato" and all those other filler tracks on OST 1. CB definintely has some of the best music in anime, but I think it's still overrated because it's so ofen said that EVERY track is genius. Kanno has her moments of brilliance, but in the end background music isn't interesting without the visuals that were intended to accompany it.
And apparently the music gets more and more oblique as we get to the movie.....
