If you are a fan of both Noir and Serial Exp. Lain you will probably find this interesting.
Check out SEL Layer 02. In the scene when Lain spots the Man in black behind the streetlamp (aproximately 5th minute) the same sound is heard in the background as in the beggining of the song "Chloe" from Noir OST 1.
Hommage? Stealing? :)
Who cares? :)
Geez, how did you catch that Nabe?
<--downloaded the annoying Pylon buzz from SELain (extended to four minutes) & "present day, present time, hahaha." ;)

I noticed that sound in Lain the first time I saw it. I had actually seen Noir first, and then all of a sudden when I watched Lain, I heard the beginning of the bgm "Chloe" from Noir. I was like, "what?"

Hm, what if both animes took the sound from the same source?

Hmmm, interesting.
I would suggest that both anime series composed the music (thus it is original), but did so, at least in part, using what are called 'off the shelf' sounds. That is to say, they are in the company’s database, or are available cross company for low rates, thus get used in many different mixes. Of course in many cases the original sound may be distorted to the point where it can no longer be recognized.
Obviously this is not the case here, as it was able to be picked.
However, if you rip the soundtrack from the Lain episode to wav, and do the same for the Noir OST you will notice that each has slight differences. For example: In the Chloe version the channel playing backing noise (in this case a semi-deep bubbling type sound) is far more prominent. Where as Lain focuses a little more on the 'notes' (if they can be called that).
Also, if you look at the execution time for a section of shared notes in the sound, you will notice that it comes down by a few points of a second in some areas in Lain (though that could be an artifact of having been converted to MPEG2, as we are only talking a few points of a second - which is not actually audible).
Yes, I was bored :)

Yes, that's what I was thinking. That it was taken from a sound base. (It's tipical for western cartoons that they use the same sound base all of the time...)
Yes, now we have exploited this topic to the limit :p
I suggest a different topic rather than getting more philosophical about this :p

Yeah, I noticed that sort of thing every now and then. Maybe I should start taking note of that sorta thing more (writing it down, etc)
