View Full Version : How bad is the dubb?...REALLY?
Well i watch the BRITISH dubbed Cardcaptors alot and i really like it even though i will admit it's absolute rubbish for children and it really is a bad dubb( in terms of accent)
But everyone keeps talking about the subb as if it was a different show..but how? if the animation is the same it would seem just as idelaistic and childih as the dubb?
i mean REALLY? what is the big differneces?and i mean BIG differences, did Sakura say she was on her period to Mei lin but in the dubb she said she was going to play on tetris with Kirow? fill me in here.:)
in the sub ver...the voices of the character and the dialog (which is very important part in the story) are retained and never been revised while the dub ver was completely modified to suit local viewers and make those bastards more money :ssj:
another thing...the voices of the characters
sometimes, the voices of the dubbers in the dub ver. is so bad it could hurt your ears really bad
example Tomoyo = 10 yr. old girl (orig ver.); 16 yr old girl (dub ver.)
well that hardly matters:p

In truth I could put up with the dub, bud voices and all, if they didn't edited out everything that makes CCS, CCS. The relationships and drama get cut out in favour of getting to the action sequences faster. But worst of all, and the main reason I wont watch it, is that they try to make out that Sakura is just a typical "Western" school girl, living in a typical "western" society. That's right people, lets just ignore the Japanese backdrops and activities cause there no way in hell this could be Japan. :dodgy:
I mean come on! They cut scenes where Sakura eats dinner with her family for fear that audience won't recognise the food she's eating!!! How ignorant can you get?

Opps back to the topic.... Well If I hadn't seen the unedited sub version or read the manga I wouldn't know about Li like "Julian" either. It near no existent in the dub, whatever one you see, and all you get is Li running away from "Julian" for no apparent reason which confused the hell out of the view, or at least me.
I spent 20 minutes trying to explain the whole Li and Yukito relationship to my mother, who's only seen the dub. ::shudder:: Never again....

Not in the AUSTRALIAN version thank goodness (seeing as i can't get the real ccs!)!! They did all the eps in order...and i think most of the eps stayed true to what it meant i think seeing as when yuo talk about some episodes i know what you're on about!

Well wether it's the same or not, the Aust version wasn't true to the original. I know I live in Australia and I watched them. I put up with the Cheez TV hosts to do so! I've also watched the sub. Trust me they weren't even close to being the same!
So many pieces were cut out of each ep and a number of episodes were skipped, The sweet card, The Firey card (which is one of my favs), Sakra and Yukito (or Julian even) at Summer Festival , just to name a few.

but here in the Philippines, we've retained the true form of CCS
the only thing we changed is the language since we have to translate Japanese into Filipino ^_^

Er, to answer the question posed by the title: BAD. Not so much the voices themselves, but the casting and the edits. Just...BAD.
come to think of it in the episdoe taht aired today "the attack of the teddy bear" I noticed li blushed extremely when with julian and even sat next to him and blushed even more..i gues stehy don't edit it out in the british version..also you see Sakura writing in JAPANEESE!:eek: i guess that means the british version is less edited...

Anyway I Like to rephrase by saying that while a good CCS dub, doesn’t exit there are still quite a few good dubs around. Cowboy Bepop, El hazard, and a lot of the ADV produced ones are quite good, wether they're better then the subs depends on the viewer I guess.
To get back on topic before Suzaku jumps me, CCS dubs aren't done true to the original script and content because they are played down to that what's though appropriate for western children in the same way as Dragonball and Pokemon and many others have been edited before it. It's just sad really and the only people that miss out are the potential CCS fans that will never know what the "real" CCS is because they're not given the chance to know any better.

license holder (a.k.a. TV networks), unfortunately, have the rights to modify the copyright holders product if the copyright holder authorized the license holder to change the product

Wait, maybe Cheez TV didn't show some of the eps but I'm positively sure they showed the Cinderella episode and the Capture of the Firey card cause I saw that twice, once on CN and once on Cheez TV.
But the Sweet Card capture I only saw on CN and a couple of other eps. Maybe that's why? But I'm sure about the other two eps...I am!

I followed up a few links and the dub looks more like this…

After that episode lists stop being reliable. It's still enough to proving my previous list wrong though, but I expected that :p
As far I as found so far this is the same list as was played in both Australia and the US, but it's hard to tell...
Anyway They do seem to skip episodes so I was right! but.....included in that list are the firey card and the Cinderlla ep. so Mystical Saria you know have assyria's permission to take this :smash: and hit me over the head with it :p
I must admit It surprises me which episodes where left out and what weren't. Was there something overly offensive with the 'dream' and 'return' card' that they felt couldn't show children or were they just among the many innocent victims in Nivana's rush to get to the final card?
We may never know....

I don't know...but did CN (aus) show more episodes than Cheez TV cause I saw a few more episodes that I never saw before when they repeated it? Argh! I don't know...I'll just continue saving and get my CCS subs...some day! :(

Yes I'd agree that Cheez TV aired less then CN because they seemed to run through them quicker. But who knows. I guess it's really not worth the energy wasting time figuring it out when there's a perfectly good sub out there that shows them all. And it's worth waiting to see.

Well, the Dub is bad enough that it makes you want to slam the director against a stone lamp post and repeatedly punch him in the solar plexus until the stone lamp post shatters. Then you want to rip out his windpipe with your teeth and hand him disembowled from a tree with his own intestines instead of rope.
That's how truly despicable the CCS dub is.
