View Full Version : Time doesn't Exist

I just noticed that Manaka simply gathered memories from people. This was also her way of staying alive. She created the Poom poom as another way of gathering memories in the form of red balloons handed out to kids by giving them back their childhood. In truth she was gathering memories.
Why memories?
Manaka was reborn when the pillar of light appeared. She was simply the past existing in present time. Despite all the referrences that happened 'five years ago,' 'a month later.' All the events were happening at the same time through 'memories.' These events DID happen but they were being recalled. A little proof of how past, present and future are coexisting in one plane at the same time.
-There's Manaka, walking around and exposing random people to memories that belong to someone else.
-There's the distorted rainbow they kept referring to.

i certainly agree with you on half of your statement. certainly, time is man-made...
but here's what i have to add...
Manaka didn't gather memories... Echoes shared memories.
Poom Poom wasn't gathering memories, but rather the part of the person that makes that person original in their own way. the Piano player for example, he took her control of her own hands away... that's what she felt made her unique and individual.
i don't believe Poom Poom was created by Manaka/Echoes, but that rather, he created himself thru Mamoru's past. perhaps as a wish granted by Sayoko. perhaps it was his final wish.. to get rid of that childish part of him. {in form of the Pied Piper} ..this explains why it is that the Pied Piper looks less and less like Mamoru as we continue thru the series... because it's slowly becoming its own identity.
note: Poom Poom even befriended Manaka.
also, if anything, he was rather taking away their childhood rather than returning it to them. remember? "..i will take all your children..."
Manaka wasn't reborn when the pillar of light appeared, but rather, Echoes {seen in the scene in the center of the light with Saotome [soon to become Manticore] leaping towards him} was reborn in Manaka's body.
Manaka doesn't show someone a memory that isn't their own.
The "distorted rainbow" is just an aurora which occurs when the electro magnetic waves of the planet are off.. ever seen the film Frequency? ;) ..that's a real natural occurance.
"All the events were happening at the same time through 'memories.' These events DID happen but they were being recalled. A little proof of how past, present and future are coexisting in one plane at the same time. "
definitely... perhaps better worded with the quote "everything does happen. and everything is happening... all the time."

hmm.
Poom-Poom did gather memories.
I think Saki the pianist (like others who took the balloons) lost their memories of youth to Poom-Poom. Yes, she did lose what made her special (her piano abilities), but this loss was a by-product of her losing what she experienced as a child. After taking the red balloon, Saki _became a child in mind, but not memory_. Thus, she was just a goofy shell, and couldn't remember how to play the piano. Hence the message of Poom-Poom's story: you can't reclaim the past.
other notes:
Manaka did create Poom-Poom. She even says this herself in ep11 (she was lonely and needed a friend).
Poom-Poom does take her hand (rather than vice versa), but it is part of his personality. Because of Manaka's passivity, this hand-holding seems to happen to the people she recalls/creates. For example, she brings back Kuroda just before her own 'light explosion' and he takes her hand, too.
We know that's Kuroda (with manticore within) who holds Manaka's hand. This is because in ep12 Boogiepop says to Kuroda/Manticore that he was created by "the girl that brought back the past" and , like Boogiepop herself, was created through close contact with death. Manaka was about to die, terrified, when she was in the light. She created/recalled Kuroda to hold her hand.

wow, i forgot about this thread. well after a reviewing, i had noticed Manaka's mention of creating PoomPoom, so that disagreement, i definitely take back.
i'm still very etchy about whether or not PoomPoom was taking memories.. i'll do more thinking on this one. maybe it needs to sink in a bit.
Kuroda and Echoes, i still think are physically different characters entirely. i'll discuss this later. adieu.

I'm pretty sure that they are the same, at least corporeally. I don't think Kuroda was the very first incarnation of Echoes, though. This all needs more thought and discussion...
However, I noticed that there is a different voice actor for Kuroda + Echoes. But Echoes only says one line in the whole show (according the commentary), and it's a voice-over in ep11. But what's the line? I can't imagine which it is...
The only voiceover (other than Manaka's) that I can think of in that episode is the male voice that explains "you will be called echoes" to the man on the cross machine thing...
This would suggest it is Kuroda on the cross... but does seem odd.

yeah, i just noticed Echoes and Kuroda have different voices as well. there's more reason to believe they are seperate.

depends on what his voiceover is.
if it is his voice during the 'cross' scene, then that means it probably IS Kuroda on the cross. I mean, the Manticore takes Saotome's voice, so there's no reason Echoes' voice shouldn't change...
