The first EVA they must have activated is....

[EVA UNIT 01]

Watching Genesis 0:11, shows when Shinji is in the lab and they are about to activate the first EVA for the first time with most probably Yui piloting it. Then she gets absorbed into the EVA. Does that mean the first EVA to be activated was EVA UNIT 01, because Yui is inside it? This also means that they had EVA 00 and EVA 01 at that time.

also add the fact that 02 was not even completed and Asuka's mother was undergoing synch test for it.

But remember the piolets do most of their tests in some sort of lab enviroment, not in the eva's themsleves. This is why the Core of the eva must be programmed for each piolet.
