"Boogiepop Phantom" description:
A scream in the night, and in that instant the world changed ... or at least, it appeared to. There have always been forces in the world and voices in the night: some friendly and other malevolent. Invisible until summoned; they slide through dimensions as people walk through doorways. They wait, and watch the doings of Man closely ... each for their own reasons. Sometimes, they appear ... and when they do, the world changes.

Everyone knows about Boogiepop: meet her one dark night and you are taken. People tell each other the stories and laugh: no one believes that she exists in this day and age. Still, there are some strange things that appear to be going on just below the surface. Darkness takes many forms, though. Evil and good intermingle. The glass shatters. Time stands still. There is something in the darkness. You aren't alone. Are you safe?

Five years ago, there was a string of grisly murders that shook the city to its core ... and in the present, psychic echoes reverberate.

that's probably the best description one could give without ruining the amazing psychological surprise that is Boogiepop Phantom. it's definitely a psychological thriller... based on the ideas of the "Boogiepop" {a Boogieman type legendary character who 'takes' people} which also incorperates and warps {greatly warps} many ideas such as change, chronology, and memory.

This series is definitely of 'Film de Noir' style, and certainly one of my favourite series {along with Serial Experiments Lain, FLCL, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Cowboy BeBop}... and it's definitely worth the money if you enjoy something that has great replay value and alot to look into analytically.

..get it.

Best anime of all time:

1. Furi Kuri
2. Neon Genesis Evangelion
3. Boogiepop Phantom
4. Cowboy Bebop

etc. Havok put it quite well, Boogiepop Phantom is by far one of the most deep and complex anime out there.

...and if you don't get it I'll stab you seventeen times.

Well my best friend and I just went halves and ordered the dvd set with our tuition refund (imagine that...the university made a mistake). I hope it's as good as you say it is, or you're paying for my first semester of grad school. ;)

Btw, why stab someone seventeen times when 18 is such a nice round number? :D
