Hi all,
I've yet to watch the episode through another 6 million times before i can understand it all, but can anyone give me the goss on what really happened? The episode i'm talking about of course is #7 if i remember correctly. It was the one with the incident involving the huge dorky lookin' robot that ran on nuclear power that was developed by some company. Then it goes outta control, misato goes inside, saves everyone...blah blah. Then misato comments that it was no accident afterwards. I know we see commander ikari and some other guy talking in a plane beforehand but i don't think that had anything to do with it. Anyone, what was the meaning of all this. Was it all setup or was it just an accident?
Cheers,

i only vaguely remember that episode :( under who's control was that nuclear powered robot ?
Ok...my thoughts...
Commander Ikari sent Ritsuko to sabotage the Jet Alone so that NERV and the Evas would remain the only agency able to fight the angels. Ritsuko change the programming so that the it would lose control and begin to melt down. I think that it wouldn't have exploded because when Misato was trying to push the cooling rods back in, the program switched back to normal allowing control to be regained. I believe this is what Ritsuko intended, and Misato's efforts were not necessary, because no one would support a robot with faulty programming that would risk melt down with every use.
Yep, the commander's correct. The only thing that didn't go according to Gendo's plans is Misato's desperate attempt to stop the machine from melting down. That was why Ritsuko was discouraging Misato from doing it.
If i remember correctly it was a civilian company who was controlling the robot through remote control.

hey but didnt the guy gendo was talking to sorta sounded like kaji and he was the one that messed up ja program? io know ritsuko was part of it and i know that she was suppose to make sure the plan worked, but i think it was kaji who did it cause didnt it sound like him when gendo was talking on the phone and the guy was saying how he finished his job and stuff. what do you guys think?

Oh ok, i see now. Ritsuko did seem kinda relaxed during the whole thing and it was a bit weird how the cooling rods got pushed in so easily. Thanx guys

I believe it was a consortium of companies from different fields. I know one company was from the nuclear industry, but I know it had a beaurocratic structure to it. Also I can't remember if the JSSDF or Japanese Government had anything to do with it.

Well, I'm just gonna add my little part to this.
I believe that it has been stated before that the voice (that sounded just like Kaji) that Gendo was talking to about the plans was not Kaji (the VA was listed as a different person). K, I've said what I wanted to.

gendo WAS talking to kaji on the phone- ritsiko was only a meer pawn in this whole operation
ok, first, kaji goes and he sabotajes the jet alone, then when ritsiko gets to the meeting thing, her job is to make sure that the job is done correctly (when i say correctly, i mean that misato's life is of no subject-just as long as the jet alone doesn't pass ssdf standards) i knoiw all this for a fact- i read about it at gainax.com, it was a little hard to understand at first, but if you need more explaining, i will be happy to

Hm? Gainax actually told part of the plot? . . . Weird. . .
Well, anyways, as I said, it was said before that the person on the phone was not Kaji (contrary to what I believed). If you will, please recheck the episodes ending credits to see the name of the VA that was on the phone with Gendo, and see if it is the same VA that plays Kaji's voice (Same voice as Ryouga Hibiki, I know for a fact. And make sure it's a subbed version). I'm too lazy to check (and my sister wouldn't get off the tv anyways), so, if you will. (To correct me if I'm wrong, to see whether I'm right).
