It's amazing! You can't help but like Alucard. He is what every man wishes to be;powerful,self-controlled,fully knowledgable at what he does and he's got a cool trenchcoat and hat! :)

And the plot keeps you going from the beginning.wich is very rare to see in today's animes

Watched 9 eps, kickass anime, great fockin' action, very cool characters.

The plot is kinda nonexistant in my eyes though, if you discount the Anderson\Alucard rivalry (VERY good stuff there) there's not a lot else of interest. Freak chips at large, be dismayed~~ And a lot of vampire related nonsense.

Still, very cool anime. Episodes 5-7 are bloody amazing (and I do mean bloody).

Hellsing, a story about a secret organisation that fights monsters in the underground. A government blackops as it were, that fights supernaturals beings like vampires, ghould, werewolves, etc of the western world. Hellsing is situated in Great Britain(aka England), Europe. The story is viewed from the point of a recently turned to vampire police woman, her name has slipped my mind. To say that Hellsing is a hypocrite departement that uses supernatural beings to fight supernatural being is grossly a misunderstanding, cause humans ability could only get them so far. With the help of AlucarD(Dracula, a vampire), Hellsing tries to fight off these supernatural beings. Like Vash the Stampede, Alucard is a superpower extraodinair, he is very well aware of his capabilities and doesn't hide them under the table either(he can't stop yabbing about it).

Right now the fansubbers are at 9-10, I have only seen up to ep 1 to 6 and 9(yes, I was impatient). Its looks good, nice style, a bit dark at the start, but its gets brighter. Though Alucard alternate form isn't what I would say cool or awsome, but it works for him so its fine with me. BTW this show has been licensed by Pioneer or some other company, but the fansubbers still bringing it out so how bad good it be:D

i didn't think it was dark, sure there's alot of gore and vampires, i would say it is in the COOL anime caterogry with trigun and cowboy bebop

i seen 1 - 7, it was great, a friend of mine compared it to nge, but personnally i see it as nothing near nge, its good too watch, but does not give you much to think about, alucard is smoothe' and in control, from what i've seen it can get a lot better but (more into the vampires (possibly something that alu doesn't absolutely rape with a stick (can i say that?))) ;x

I have eps 1-9 and the soundtrack and a few of the mangas. I would describe it as a cross between Trigun and Master of Mosquiton or Vampire Princess Miyu. Bit of comedy. Bit of drama. Bit of good, old gothic darkness.

And, you have to love the pimpin' red trench coat

Takahashi

Not to mentionned the pimpin' hat and two fantastic looking guns(with silver exploding bullets).

i've seen eps 1-9 so far, yeah Alucard is super cool and super freaky at the same time.

in the fansubs i saw they said that his name isn't Alucard but Arkard. i dunno where they got that from cos Alucard (Dracula backwards) makes more sense ??? i guess i'll find out for sure when the DVDs come out.

I think you got the wrong version, that takes it to literally what the VA said, cause my version from ANSI and AP both translated the name as Alucard.

Romanized, I'm fairly confident its supposed to be Alucard. Frankly, considering the entire vampire thing, I think they meant for his name to be "Alucard", the japanese people just can't say "Alucard". Also, I'm not clear on this but a friend told me that the Japanese language does not have an 'l'(letter L) so when they transcribe Alucard it comes out Arucard or Aakard(if they speak fast).

By the way, it was [si] that said it was Arkard.

I've only seen episode 1 (gotta burrow more), but the sheer coolness of Alucard's quotes stuck in my mind forever:

Greetings, I am from the Hellsing Trash Disposal Unit.

"Don't tell me you are here to kill me."

No, I am not an exterminator, but a garbageman. You are but the cockroack that feeds on the garbage. Hardly worth my attention. And that awful wardrobe of yours. You have absolutely no style whatsoever.

To say those lines with his calm composure and straight face in the face of danger just screams the very definition of cool itself. :D And loading his Desert Eagle BFG with his teeth; awesome. :D

Those bits with the Beavis and Butthead style animation at the end are funny, I don't fully get why they are there though. I guess they make an original alternative to showing a preview of the next ep.

Yeah, Hellsing's pretty cool. The style of the opening sequence is one of my favorites and then it changes and it's still cool. That hound with the cross is friggin' bad too. :smokin:
I remember I spent the first two episodes wondering if Integral Hellsing was a guy or gal though. :heh:
I think so far just the feel of it is really good but I'm counting on finding out why Alucard is a servant.
Hey even the preview for this series is stylishly dark and cool.

My friend also could not tell if Integral was a woman. It was kinda hard to tell, and long hair is not always a tip off in anime.

Alucard says "Miss Hellsing" (in english) in episode four ithink. Looks like the millitary bishonen was actually a woman in this one.

Hey, isn't Hellsing a German name?

Ronin Aquila

Yes it is. And as is the professor Abraham Van-Helsing in the original novel of Dracula. :)

Takara
11-03-02, 07:31 PM
Hmm, I read Dracula six years ago  Maybe that why I thought of it...

Just got the first book of the Hellsing manga. It's amusing but not a dark. It explains more of the story early on and is less mysterious. Integral looks more like a woman. Alucard is still cool. Integral and Ceres have some mondo funny facial expressions  and even Alucard too. That's 'bout it, still cool bloody action.

Hey, I thought we already went over Integral being MISS Hellsing.

Integral looks more like a woman... I meant as opposed to the first two episodes in da anime.

13 eps is enough. I wouldn't want them to try to drag it out longer than neccessary and spoil it.

Ronin Aquila

Let us hope like Vandread the 13 Episodes of Hellsing was but a trial for its popularity, and that another tightly written 13 episodes will follow as a result of its rapport with the anime community. :D

On a side note, Alucard's gun reeks of coolness for it is what Vash the Stampede's gun could have been. :D

I take back my earlier comments since someone i know who has seen all of hellsing (not subbed) is ------- me around about the end of it.

Anyway if ep 13 leaves room for a continuation, the earliest you will get more hellsing is probably 2003, with gonzo having a lot of series to work on. I based that descion on the fact that hellsing is damn popular, theirs quite abit of manga and gonzo are sequel shy (Vandread, Gatekeepers). peeps at animeondvd also think theirs going to be a sequel.

Anyway time to watch Hellsing 2-4

Trepid

9 was the last to be fansub? I've watched ep 1 to 10, all subbed. :D
Even if it has been licensed, as long as ppl want to watch more and the official subs are not released yet, there will always be fansubs.

Westlo
15-03-02, 08:43 AM
Never fear Trepid

Since Hellsing has been licensed since episode 3 has been fansubbed (well since it was made but thats when it was official licensed) and episode 10 recently came out (like a day or two ago by A-J fansubs) i'm pretty sure it's going to be finished ;)

Eps 2-4 rocked, especially ep 3 with that priest guy.

oppa
15-03-02, 08:52 AM
I love that butler-type guy. I haven't watched any Hellsing for a couple weeks now so I'm drawing a blank to his name, but he was the one in (around) episode 6 that had the threads. I won't say more for fear of tiny spoilers, but I'm sure we know who I'm refering to.

He just kicks ass.

(I had no idea Hellsing was only 13 episodes. For a series like this, I assumed it would be 26. That blows. :( )

I personaly feel no harm is done, but you could have been a bit more subtle.

BTW I thought this was funny, technically one of the rules states "° NO selling or distribution or discussion of illegal or copyrighted materials on this board." and if you take it literally we should not discuss anime because it's copyrighted!

Well thats the problem when fansubbing groups set release dates, anything can happen and it could be delayed. Thats why 90% of them don't set release dates so whinging leechers don't whinge that so and so isn't out.

remebers the days of when asking for the date noir 26 would be released, in soldats earned you a ban

Well i don't think Alucard fis the normal hero mould.....but thats why i like him :D

Also Anime-Pixel have released eps 11-12 and ep 13 is due out 8PM EST. Their files are roughly 100 meg.

Another group Animeone have theirs due to go (HQ) by firday and lets not forget Anime-Junkies

And i think it's ok to talk about fansubs and their groups as long as we don't tell ppl where to get them from (ie server, channel, program etc)

11 was pretty cool, although the quality of my ep sucked. 12 is going to rock with that huge battle that's going to take place. And Integral should become a Vampire too. I probably would if I had the chance.

I don't think Integral will become a vampire, she is very strong willed person. Becoming a vampire would be an insult to her and her family.

I stopped watching after episode 9. The series showed a lot of promise in the first few episodes, but I lost interest after a while. One of the reasons was that Celas Victoria's character design was unbelievably horrible, her personality was irritating (grow the f*** up, you're a vampire and you chose to be one. I hate wishy-washy pathetic and naive female main characters), and she didn't 'fit' with the other characters ('cartoony' vs 'realistic'). I'm not going to stick around to see if she 'grows up'.

Vash-like Alucard, who could regenerate clothing as well as flesh, was cool and all, but the series just felt rather average at best.

Shax
29-03-02, 08:14 AM
Well in ep 11 and 12 some things happen which develop her character slightly more (not going to spoil it for you), but it was near the end so I can't say how much she has 'grown up'. Besides, its her personality which makes everyone like her and brings a little humour to the series.

btw, too bad you stop at ep 9, ep 10 was cool, it showed Alucard's and Integral's past. (And ep 9 was a cliffhanger! How did you manage to resist watching ep 10?! :p )

Westlo
29-03-02, 10:24 AM

In response to your questions:

*SPOILERS*

Alucard is Vlad the Impaler AKA Dracula. That's obvious from the moustache and the way Incognito meets his death. As far as Integral... she probably won't become a vampire. After all, Walter is still out there somewhere, and even if he's locked up, he WILL get loose.

I think most of the people who have been following Hellsing should have seen all of it already, so lets quite the spoiler thing eh?

The little flash that shows count Dracula face, could just means that he has his fathers looks and traits, after all "like father, like son". There is still no evidence that he could be Dracula, I guess will find that out in the second season:D.

Integral a vampire, she is most likely going to be. If you can remember or rewatch episode 11, where they had a talk about it. He asked her and she replies with "You can read my mind, so why ask" and he replies with "Yes, but I want to hear you say it", as in she already wanted it but still reluctant to turn. As it is she wants it:agree:.

The whole her majestie is on your side is just that they needed a scapegoat to put the blameon, also Britain has one of those powerless monarch(I think), where they are only put on display, but never have any real power. So even if the queen wants to help, she can only show public support, but doesn't play a decisive role, also the queen just has to say what is written by parlament. Endure is just to tell to bide her time and wait for an opportunity to clear the Hellsing name, meaning not do anything rash because that is exactly what the people in power wants them to do. If you fight them head on, then you would dig an even deeper whole for yourself, making it harder to climb out of it.

Reason why I think there is gonna be a second season.
- They have not explained the contract between Hellsing and Alucard.
- Who Alucard really is.
- Who the other master is(Incognito's master).
- Who made the artificial freak chip.
- Celas Victoria is not kick ass enough :).
- Its popular with the fans:D.
- Unresolved political situation.
- Integrale would make an awsome Vampire:D.

Vlad the Impaler is believed to have started the legend of Dracula, by the way he threw men, women and children onto spikes, then sat beheath their bodies and ate bread soaked in the blood that drained from them.

Vampires, Dracula, they are just myths, but Vlad was real.

Yes, Vlad was real, but he never threw innocent men, women and children onto spikes, and he definitely didn't eat bread soaked in their blood. Vlad Tepes , aka Vlad the Impaler was good and honest king of Transilvania, and a Romanian national hero. He only impailed thives, murderes, those who did not respect the most basic of human rights, and other evils.

As for the mith of the vampire, yes it was based on him, but I wouldn't call it a mith. The vampire is a creation of Irish writter (I'm not really sure if he was Irish though, and I'm too lazy to research it now) Brad Stoker.

As for the show's aspect... Let me just ask you this: If you could live for such a long time, wouldn't you also want to lead a small country once in a while?

That's all.

So, women and children can't be criminals? I never said innocent.......Though, alot of texts I have read do say he was a monster.

I hope you mean Bram Stoker.

Ronin Aquila

Mr Stoker no doubt drew the myth of Count Tepes' cruelty from sources that are of the enemies of Transylvania, and would therefore be greviously exaggerated and blown out of poportions in thier accounts.

Also, it is more than likely that the impalements Tepes allegedly performed are inspiration for Stoker's canonical crux of Vampiric existence: The stake through the heart.

And I must say: For a king who has lived 600 years, count Alucard certainly keeps up with the hip way of dress, language and style as opposed to decaying in antiquidated snobbish dignity. ;)

Spoiler... warning

in the episode where Integral meets the vatican pple in the church, and alucard appears out of nowhere and threatens them, he's like:

"You romans haven't changed a bit in 2000 years"

I would suppose he knew from experience how the romans were 2000 years ago. unless he read it in a book or something and just threw in the line...

Thirteen Episodes of Vandread were produced. ;)

And as the story was so popular and the ending so open ended, it was followed by the equally brilliant Vandread The Second Stage.

If this pattern is any indication of Gonzo's conduct, it could well be that the 13 Episodes of Hellsing that have transpired is but a successful experiment through which an entire franchise will be spawned in the future. ;)

Just finished Hellsing. Coolness!

Integral was such a cute kid - hard to believe she's who she is now.

Did anyone think that blonde ghoul guy just kinda "appeared" in the plot? (They say his name once, I forgot it...) I know his scenes with Celes illustrated her rejecting a vampiric life of mindless destruction and enjoying it, but that guy didn't really do much for the story. (Aside from appearing naked in every scene...girl fanservice? Hmm.....)

And what is Incognito anyway?!? I'd really like to know...

Did anyone else notice how the quality of the animation wavered around ep 10 I think. Integral's character design seemed very sloppy for a while, but then it went back to normal.

I've only seen up to the end of episode 6... but already this show is one of my favorite. What a cool show! I can't wait to see more. It's nice to see an vampire show that doesn't ooze angsty "oh why do I have to kill humans to survive" stuff. Arucard is the epitomy of coolness.

Although I think it might have added more credibility to Celes' character if she got to wear the same clothes as the other members of her squad. I mean, really, that short skirt must be hard to deal with...

the opening song is called Cool.

It's on the OST as 'Logos Naki World', but I've heard it called both. Go figure.

I think the most fun with the opening theme is trying to work out what the hell the lyrics are. They're in the most beautiful, nonsensical Japlish ever.

I spent hours a few days ago trying to search the web for the lyrics to "Cool/Logos Naki World"... every single site I found had something different, and most of it was nonsense...

But hey. The song sounds cool, and that's all that matters, right? And, if you desperately need to sing along, you can sing along with the "Shoobe doobe do" part.

By the way, Pen2, that dancing cactus cracks me up! At least... I think that's what it's supposed to be. :heh:

Although I think it might have added more credibility to Celes' character if she got to wear the same clothes as the other members of her squad. I mean, really, that short skirt must be hard to deal with...

I really hate that they didn't keep the names the same. Alucard would have made much more sense than Arucard, but I guess they went after the way it was pronounced.

Funny how Seras manages to remain such a cute, sweet, and ultimately caring girl after entering the world of vampirism.

To have such willpower would make her in a sense a stronger person than Arcard is. ;)

She hasn't been a Vampire all that long. I suspect as she lived as a Vampire for longer, her humanity will fade.

True True. :(

But considering that most vampires who have been dead for less time than she has are usually heartless, murdering psychopaths, she is still mentally strong in comparison. ;)

Not at all.

Just a casual observation on how Seras is the only person who does not immediately become a hateful monster after becoming undead. ;)

I think she is the only one to become a Vampire. All the others, soldiers etc, become Ghouls.

I recently saw Hellsing. After hearing so much about it, I was expecting to to be crap. However, my skepticism was proven wrong! Hellsing is kinda cool!

Sayeth Ronin Aquila:

Most likely she is confused and bewildered with this new power and thus her feelings of rage are held in check.

Or it's because she's a virgin. In the manga it says that unchaste people become ghouls after bitten. Virgins of the opposite sex who are bitten become vampires.

Spoiler....

However, the new wave of vampires that Hellsing is fighting turn everyone into ghouls, virgin or not.

Gosh, then that little girl vampire (her name slips my mind) was wrong when she said that Seras has no doubt experienced the pleasure of being a woman. ;)

She said "You were reborn at a good time. Wait... or maybe you never knew the pleasure of being a woman."

Getting senile, Ronin? ;) :p

Perhaps, I did have two snow chairs consecutively knocked into the back of my skull when I stepped off too early 7 years ago. :heh:

Or that I have not seen that episode for about 5 months. ;)

Ah, but ask him to quote Kirika from any scene of any episode of Noir and I am sure the answer would be both instant and flawless.

One person can't keep everything perfect in his or her memory; some things have to slip a little to make way for that which is more important.

Come to think about it, although much happier, Seras is still kinda cute in the "sad, vulnerable yet strong and responsible" Kirika-Chan sort of way, is she not? :kawaii:

I think the show is very well done all around. I really like the characters and how they interact and "react" with one another.

yes and no...

THere are places in the series where it really could use a bit more...

Its a series thats best first time through if you ask me. Its not really all that complex as to require repeat screenings
