There was the original Bubblegum Crisis, which was one of the more popular series in the '80's...this was followed up by Bubblegum Crash. The latest is Bubblegum Crisis 2040, this is the 90's revamp of the series/storyline and is the series that SBS will be showing.
What can I say...the original series has a lot of fans, but it does have a VERY 80's look...plus one of the worst dubs ever, if you watch dubs ^^; I think it actually had an Australian release so you might be able to find it at your local videostore if you're interested.
The new nineties version is very slick and has pretty high production values...the animation is high quality and stylish and the music is pretty good as well. I'm looking forwards to seeing the whole series although I don't know if I will be able to stomach the dub, I've been watching the subbed version. I'll leave the summing up of the storyline to someone else ^^;

hehe i remember bgc. i have it. i have the subtitled version too. it was really good. the title may seem werid but the show is really different from the title. i do have crash too. for ppl who wanna know the characters are priss, nene, sylia (i think) and um one more, i forgot her name i didnt watch it for a while :heh: they fight in some kind of armor and they kill robots called boomers. its a god story too. crash was ok, but in crash they totaly changed the suits they wore to fight. the new bgc tokyo crisis 2040, is like copying right off the originals, just changing looks and stuff. the armor kinda looks exactly the same. i dunno if its good or not, i have to check it out soon. but irather prefer the old series that i have.

^_^
I thought the name was pretty appropriate after I read one of the production people's explanations: when you blow a bubble with bubblegum way too big and it pops and just goes EVERYWHERE and it's a real bugger to clean up!!
The SBS program Hotline that originally mentioned the BGC purchase by SBS didn't say anything about a time or date for the screening, but one would assume that they won't let it sit around for too long, gathering dust! I'm guessing they'll show it at least before the end of the year.
Oh, and about the new and old versions
Old: Bubblegum Crisis
Old Sequel: Bubblegum Crash
New: Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040
For some really good summaries, and info about the subs/dubs
check these out:

I tried ringing SBS to see if programming department knew any more about when new anime series might start but they currently have not set a date and the person on the phone mentioned it most likely won't be on the in next few months.

According to the new Madman Entertainment site ( http://www.madman.com.au/bgc2040/ ) Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 is now due on SBS sometime September/October,
so I guess that means late September/early October 2000.
Was just mentioned on the aus.tv news group.

21-09-00, 04:03 AM
hey pdhq004 long time no see :D
alot has changed on this forum with new features and improved speed :)
I bought the first BGC 2040 vid in dub (oh the shame of it) and it isn't that great... the music is ok, but Priss' singing sounds just.. well, wrong. But I noticed the dub voice for Sylia is the chick who does Naoko Akagi, Ritsuko's mother in Evangelion. And her soul isn't in Unit-00 or the Magi!!! hehe ^_^

eva2000: last term was unbelievably busy in terms of school work. Only 6 or 7 weeks left now though, forever :B:
Anyway, even if BGC isnt THAT good (although it certainly looks promising), its anime on free to air TV, which cant be anything but good

Hey, my first post in the BGC forum.
Well, I just saw the first tape from Madman, and I must say...Im impressed. I'll watch it if it comes on for sure!
Does anyone else think that the Hardsuits are too...Organic? Or am I too much of a robotic mecha lover. Oh, and for those that haven't seen it, the Dub is actually pretty good. Good Lip Synch, everything is clicking...:)

I have heard that Bubblegum suppose to come out on SBS... but has it yet??
I haven't seen any TV guide talking about it...
anyone got any ideas??
I like 2040 much better than the old series, cos the graphics are much better!!!
I have seen few ep, but not all.
By the time they show it I'll probably have the whole series which kind of defeats the point. I wish SBS would show some Unlicensed anime such as Flame of Recca or Hana Yori Dango. That would at least let their subtitling dept do its job

crap...
i've heard from somewhere that we will be getting a double eps of South Park (Oh the Humanity)
assyria
13-01-01, 12:49 AM
I HATE to say it but from what I saw on the SBS web page their is no sign of BC anywhere on their TV guides.
The 29th has south park repeats in it's 8.30 time slot, so I think that just plain sucks!
If anyones intrested in finding reasons why they could try contacting SBS; PO box 294 South Melboure vic 3205 or you could ring (03) 9685 2828, and if your lucky enough to own a fax; (03) 96867501. they don't seem to have a e-mail address or at least I counldn't find one
if enough people ask about they're bond to get sick of us asking and air it to shut us up. ^_^
that's my two cents anyhow.
i don't think SBS would put it on before febuary because that's when the ratings war begins. i guess we'll just have too wait and see
Yes the site ( http://animeguide.cyril.com/ ) that originally gave the 29th January 2001 date later reported SBS changed their minds and won't be starting it this month. Has been no news about it since then.

I've seen up to the cliffhanger episode, the unleashing of the dragonline and there's no more videos out as of late! Now I'm annoyed that SBS wont be showing it anytime soon.
DOes any one know when it going to be on? Gaspachio soup is getting anoyed at me for not getting the 2040 eps fast enough. But if its on soon i wont bother. So please tell me!!!!
Bubblegum Crisis 2040 will be shown on SBS every Saturday night at 8.30pm, from the 19th of May 2001, to the 10th of November 2001.

my friend said they also have the right until 2004 how cool is that. so we can see it over and over and over and blah blah blah :)
Actually SBS only have the rights to show the Bubblegum Tokyo 2040 series twice only, so it will only be repeated once sometime between 2002 - 2004.

now i am confused is SBS airing
Bubblegum Crisis or
BGC 2040 ?
SBS are only showing Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040
well you guys I had the smae problem I started to tape NGE when it was on SBS but I started around ep 14 I think and when I found it was replayed I missed for first 2 eps so I went out and hired it from a vedio shop and dumbed that video and then taped it off SBS
but I am not going to wate for bubblegum to show on SBS I am going to get the DVD's
my freind has all ready showed me videos 1-8 so I cant wate 24 weeks after they start showing them to get to where I am (seeing they are doing 1 ep a week not like NGE 2 eps a week)
