It's called "VF-0," a 20th anniversary OVA.

I saw this at the macrossworld forums (www.macrossworld.com) and it says something about the animation in 3d and character in 2d. I expect some Vandread goodness cause that's MY type of CG.

A new Macross series can only be a good thing. I've been searching around for info on it, but no real details as of yet on what it'll be about. There's been alot of speculation at Macross World (http://216.12.215.2/cgi-bin/ikonboard//ikonboard.cgi) that it'll be set before the 1st Space War, but nothing concrete has come out yet about it.

Here's some more information (from my memory) from the macrossworld forums. Apparently, it takes place in the Macross Universe. They're not sure WHEN, but the new VF is based off the old VF-1. Um...I believe 4 ep OVA of 30 min each...that's it from my little brain. However, all you hail my brain cause I brought this pic.

Thanks to the heavy use of Chinese characters and my limited understanding of Japanese, I can understand description of thedarkmarine's pic. I won't embarass myself to try to translate the whole thing, :D but I can give a summary of sort.

This OVA is going to take place at replacement process of VF11 to VF17. The project to develop VF17 is Stealth Wing X (SWX), the high standards are set. Out come this new fighter, the fighter itself is based on VF1 as previously mentioned thanks to its history in battle. This new fighter is infused new technologies, ie: stealth, faster, endurance, better planet re-entry.... bah bah bah

There some descriptions on the capabilities and I can probably translate the whole thing. But I think will let someone who actually know Japanese to do it, unless you guys want me to. :tongue3:

My apology for the really bad translation in advance, I am not responsible for any misinformation and misinterpration. :D Also I can't make out the last paragraph (through I am pretty sure it has to do with the design of arms and legs and where it mount its equipments).

Here goes:

SW-XA1
The United Earth Military is replacing the VF-1 and VF11, the VF17 is at it final testing stage. The Regonizing the need of another VF fighter, the united military begins SWX (Stealth Wing X). The demand is highly critical, the dogfighting ability must be above that of VF17. The orginal role of VF17 designated by The United Military is to carry out long range attacks, and not aerospace control and defense, therefore another VF is needed.

To meet the demands, an experimental fighter is developed, resulting XA1.

The body of the fighter is from the remaining VF1, the reason chosen is its proven battle record and its so often used. The chosen fighter is of late upgraded model, the latest
technologies are incorporated and powered up as well as upgrade in weaponary/equipments. Speed, altitude, mobility, endurance are of equal or exceed the test standard of the still
experimenting VF17.


This craft is not a competitor of VF17, and it looks bloody like a YF21 and VF22 (in its fighter mode). I won't be surprised if the development of these fighters are linked, but that's just my opinion.

20th Anniverse Memorial Macross new title, Name, VF-0!!
Super Dimension Fortress Macross, starting from 1982 TV series, movie, OVA TV periodically release new title. Recently engaged in Super Robo War, a new stage has started (not sure about this sentense), the industry is anticpating. This year at Macross 20th Anniverse memorial, a new title VF-0 is decided to be put to development.

VF-0 will be an 30 mins OVA with a total of 4 episodes. Creator ???? (I can probably translate it but too lazy to look up hhe hiragara) and Shouji Kawamao (these are the same guys from article 2) has been actively working on production, and is planning to release this fall. 3D-CG and 2D-CG will be used in 21st century's Macross, VF-0.

This month, the initial design of VF-0 is released, others will be release at a later date, to be continue!!!

I think the 2nd article about the fighter is also part of the OVA, since they are of the same artists and creator, but that's just my opinion.

Old news, (about three weeks old from start of thread) but still good news. :cool: Think it should be based on a sidestory similar to Macross Plus in terms of relevance to the timeline. It should be after the VF-1 series but I don't think Minmei and Hikaru are going to be in this one. It would be interesting if they did- after all, not a lot of news from colonies make things seem peculiar for UNSPACY.

About time Studio Nue/Big West decided to make a big hit on their 20th anniversary!! :o

That and the Hasegawa YF-19 is going to make this year very memorable indeed :)

This is video shot during a preview of a new GONZO anime, "Fighting Fairy Yukikaze". Something about aliens and Earth hurling squadron upon squadron of fighters against them. Personally i think it looks amazing....if VF-0 looks like this, there is no need to worry........

But as far as I know, there isn't any transformations in the videoclip because they're all just planes. The series is based on a manga which is about an unknown enemy called JAM and the planes you see are just planes- no mecha for those enthusiasts out there :D

Saw that clip a few days ago... all I'll say is that I was swearing for the next minute cuz I saw that title mentioned in Newtype last September and have been looking high and low (well... within convenience) trying to find where I could get the bloody thing. Now I find out it's attached to Macross!!

As for the clip, it was basically a plug about the 5 part OVA series. I'm not sure if Yukikaze is nickname of the pilot or the plane (probably the plane). It basically talks about the themes and situations that were run in the series that create the need for Yukikaze as well as life after first contact. Looks like the Japs are about to, or should I say, have, given Independence Day the finger and showed that they can do an invasion flick better.

I'd have to watch it properly to catch all the words and stuff but the audio isn't all that flash.

Just a slight note: Sentou Yousei Yukikaze directely translated means Battle Fairy Blizzard... don't ask why but that's what it is.

The plane is supposed to be like Gundam Sentinel- the plane is totally capable of thinking by itself and thus has a mind of its own. The anime focuses more on the plane than the pilot. Well, that's all I've been able to glean so far. :)

As for release dates, it's said to be released on DVD during Spring (which should be about now)
So just be patient and it'll probably get it subbed sooner or later.
