Sorry, I saw Happy Gilmore again last night :heh: Anyway on to the question!

After all that Ashitaka gets rid of his curse, why does he decide to stay with the Tatara clan instead of returning to his clan in the east? I probably didn't understand this because I watched the sub and not the dub.

In the sub, it is plain that when he is cast out of his village, it is for good.

That is why the clan elders react so painfully when he cuts off his topknot - it is a symbol of his membership, and he is symbolically cutting himself off from his clan forever.

What I don't get is if they love each other so much, why are they seperating to different places?

They say they'll visit each other, but neither is fully comfortable with the "other" world, so they can't be together all the time.

It would have been better if they lived in the forest together....

I'd want to return home... But then, you couldn't... So that rather proves that... :P

What *I* don't get is...

Why are they so polite?!!?

Can't they sneak a little kiss to please the audience?

Geez, I remember by the end of watching the movie for the first time (oh, that was so long ago!) my throat was unmistakingly sore from screaming, "KISS, KISS!" "COME ON, WE DON'T HAVE UNTIL CHRISTMAS!" "GODDAMNIT, YOU LITTLE WIMPS!!" "HELL, IF I HAD THE HOTS FOR HIM, I'D BE BASES FROM YOU, WOLF GIRL!" and various other evils. *sigh* A sequel or something will make up for my strained efforts.

Shadows and light,
~Lina

Im sure in the dub Ashitaka said he is going to help rebuild Iron Town.

Still, i think that judgement by the elders is a bit too harsh!! Considering that he got the curse while trying to save his village, a heroic act, and yet he gets banish, never to return, what a reward!!!

By the way, why did they have to banish him like that ???? Are they afraid that their tribe will be doomed as well!! Couldn't they just send him off to find the cure and then welcome him back!!!

I don't think they believed there was a cure; Ashitaka was sent out merely to explore the world. And Ashitaka clams up when Jigo and Eboshi pry at his origins - the clan was nearly wiped out by the Imperial forces and they don't want to risk discovery.

But really, I think the "curse" aspect is the strongest. Once cursed, I don't think he could be considered for the clan leadership, even if just for appearance's sake.
