This relates to Lain but is more general. If in the future reality and fantasy merged, would people stay in reality or "live" (surrender their mind) to a fantasy world? Could reality and fantasy ever merge. Would it be good to escape reality or surrender to the fantasy world?

In Lain we this sort of thing happen, do you think that it is possible?

i think that depends on what kind of person you are/were. and it also depends on whether or not you could chose for yourself, to either stay in reality or 'live' in a fantasy world...or if everyoone had to chose one thing.
The thought of being able to reside in a fantasy world is very thrilling...to be able to move where you want to, to be able to be exactly who you want to be...and to do what you want to do...
i would sure want to try it...^_^
Hmmm, and if you were to 'surrender' to living in a fantasy world, i don't know if you'd always like to be that way...maybe eventually you would want to come back to reality and live a 'normal' life..or something...and would that option be available then? or would you be 'trapped' in that 'other' world forever..?

Maybe it could....i mean i don't know if it is really possible..probably not..but well, we have all these things in the world...like going to the movies, or sitting infront of your TV-screen/computer screen playing games, watching Anime on your VCR/DVD player or comp and why...? For me it is definitely a way of escaping reality or taking a brake from living your 'real' life.
And these Virtual Reality things that will probably come soon and be better developed than before, they take you even further into a fantasy world.
So maybe, someday, reality will merge with fantasy in some way...but how is almost impossible to say...
And yes, i do think it is good to escape reality..maybe not for eternity^^ but definitely sometimes. There's so much stress and bad things in this world and we could all use some 'time off' from reality to calm down and feel like there's not a worry in the world.

I know that some activitys that we do could be seen as escaping from reality. Should people work harder at making reality better? Fantasy can be a good way to see life but it is just fantasy. If people had the chance 'switch off' when they go to a boring job, they would take it. Is fantasy related to the society that we live in? Why can't we do what we want all the time? I know the answer but it would be nice to pursure our interests more... sorry if I am babbling on too much.

The thing is, everyone's fantasy's are soooo different, many of them nowhere near safe - nor plausable. So trying to implement fantasy into reality begs the question, exactly who's fantasy would it be?

I don't know if I like the idea of anyone being given the opportunity to simply assume what it is I want and then stick it into society. That's a little scary.

Fantasy should be private and it would be scary if everyone shared someone elses fantasy. I hope that this sort of thing doesent happen, but you never know what the future will hold...

i don't know about merging reality and fantasy. but sadly, people certainly confuse the two all the time.

I think people're already surrendering to a fantasy world more and more, to hide from reality's troubles. I don't think they'll ever merge in the real world, but it indoubtly can in people's minds and it have already - at least it seems so for many, after all; you can get lost in books, the wired, movies, worlds and so on.
