finally I have figured out what Karou was on about....I think! that 'thing' that had 'the lance of longinus' in it wasn't Adam at all but Lilith!
Now Lilith is the mother of the angels, or so the blurb says. Now did we infact create the angels so SEELE could usher in instrumentality? hence having the angels mum at NERV or was Lilith simply captured?
also is it true that humans themselves were the eighteenth angel? (humanis). If so the last angel truely did bring about third impact and end life as we know it, because we did it ourselves!?

I thought that there was only 17 angels.
Kaoru was the 17th angel...and I'm pretty sure theres a Quote to support my point (but I don't know it)
Humanity was just the result of Instrumentality

They make mention of it in the movies that humans are the 18th angel. As I believe Lillith was simply captured.

Human is the 18th angel and Lilith is the one on the cross at the bottom of central dogma.

I think Captain Jake in one of the archived posts explained it pretty well:
"6) Well you have to believe in the good and bad impacts to get this series. Why didn't the Angels all attack at once in full force to overwhelm Nerv? Because they are there to test humanities perseverence and whether or not they are worthy to reach the final stage in human evolution. If an Angel comes into contact with Adam humanity becomes iradicated in the bad third impact where we would all simply cease to exist. The good third impact is much better but also much harder. You see the good third impact merges all of humanity into one cosmic being where they can be eternally happy, basically this means you can get into heaven regardless of your actions. In order to get the good impact either an Angel must come into contact with Lilith.(which is why Seele tried to trick Kaworu into touching Lilith) Or you need to defeat all 17 Angels, have the lance of longuinus(sorry about the spelling agin) and a man made Angel which is either Rei or and Evangelion. Then put these things together and you got yourselves one helluva good impact. "

No... Humanity is not the 18th angel, it was it... Humanity is what the 18th Angel became after he got bored of being alone, so he splitted itself into this group of lilims(humans) The whole Instrumentality project is trying to restore the 18th Angel...

Humanity isn't the 18th Angel, It's just Misato opinion, it's not fact

One thing NGE is almost devoid of is Facts.

humanity being the 18th angel fits in well (with the change of plan theory).

Have you seen EoE Wolfpac?

Sadly, only once, at a comic convention. It was in Japanese with english subtitles, so untill Madman releses it, I can only go by that and by what I've read
