i'm sure this topic has been discussed before but i don't remember reading about it so i'm starting it again.

in the first episode (or is it the second?) when the guy at cyberia freaks out and shoots people and then himself after lain tells him everyone is always connected... well, did lain *make* him kill himself? every other time i've watched this part i've just assumed that he realized the full force of his actions... cuz he says that the wired will never interfere with the real world (and maybe even partly believed that) but she reminds him that everyone is connected... i always just assumed that he killed himself out of pure guilt for realizing that it *did* really matter that he killed those people.

this time watching it i got the idea that maybe lain made him do it. i dunno, just something in the look on her face. what do you think?

I always assumed he killed himself by himself till you brought this up. Now I'm not so sure.

I believe he killed himself, but partly out of fear of her.'

So in some way she did make him do it.

I believe that lain had something to do with the guys death. It might have been the cyber-lain. Also the drug changed his view on life.

Ditto what Shadow War said.

The guy was obviously unbalanced before he saw Lain. He already had the gun. He did flip out when he saw her, but I don't think Lain "made" him do anything. What reason would she have?

I have a feeling he saw something in her that caused him to take his own life. I don't see any reason why Lain would make him kill himself.

He was drugged up plus he seemed to be someone who was actively in the wired, and maybe something about Lain... something he saw in her or from something he's seen on the wired... it just made him snap, in a way.
