From what I have read around here some scenes have been cut from EVA (dont know if its just on the DVD's, on TV or tapes ect.) One example would be where Rei pulls the lance out of Lilith and her legs grow back. So could could someone tell me which sceenes were cut and posibly why they were cut?

well not really a different version
just a few extra scenes added to the original
You can download one of the deleted scenes from a certain filesharing application which i will not name here. Its a part they took out during the fight with the second last angel.

i thought those scenes were from the directors edition which they so cleverly have made it imposible for us to get anywhere.

i bought eva dvds off ebay, and they contain all the stuff from the directors cut episodes. On the other hand, the dubbing is so bad it makes the dialogue scenes pretty hard to understand.

The only editing in the series is those ridiculous layovers and a few eps where they played the wrong ending credits. Outside of that, its uncut. Directors Cut are new scenes that weren't there in the first place.
Wasn't the Directors cut footage added to a japanese release of Eva on some format to apologize for them taking so long to get it out? And that's how the whole thing sort of started?
Kazuya Tsurumaki , assistant director of Eva and Anno's right hand man had this to say about it at Otakon 2001:
"The scenes that were added to Eva for its video release aren't that important. We added them as an apology for taking so long to get the video out. Maybe they'll help people understand things, because the episodes were done under tough deadlines the first time around."
Ah yes, that's what I read alright. Thank you MDWigs.

bit unfair we didn't get them for the dvd boxset just released :(
Fairness really had nothing to do with it. They would have had to pay more money to get those few little scenes. And since they're not really essential to understanding the overall story they'd just be frankly blowing a lot of money just for us and not for much other reason.
And as a bussiness that's just kind of foolish regardless of how cool it would be for us. :D

I just realised something if Lilith regrows her legs then where are they in Ep 24 when Kaoru walk up to her? If I remember she didnt have any there.

It's for those reasons that the scenes were cut in the first place. It doesn't exactly fit in with the final episodes which at the time hadn't been made yet. So when they cut the legs scene they didn't have Lilith with legs in any of the future shots. They didn't expect the scene to be put back into the show so that's why it doesn't really fit in with the end.
