alright, pay close CLOSE attention...

i have just recently eMailed Rightstuf international in concern of the possibility of them {in particular because they did so well with Boogiepop Phantom} releasing the Boogiepop film. i told them that i know many people are greatly interested in seeing the film, but don't have the required neccessities to correctly enjoy the available Region:02 encoding of the film. be it do to their DVDplayer or inability to understand the Japanese language.

below, i quote their reply:
Rightstuf, customer service:
Traditionally, liveaction versions of anime have not done well in the U.S. However, there are several new films being developed currently, and depending upon fan response, it is possible that the Boogiepop movie could be licensed.
they state very clearly, that "depending upon fan response..." it IS indeed possible that they could license the film. so... what can WE do???

as many of you as possible... write to rsservice@rightstuf.com and let them know that you're interested in purchasing the Boogiepop film... let them know how you think about what they could contribute to bringing this film to be available to the rest of the Anime community... let them know what you think.

if we can get enough people to express their interests, then we should very well be able to show them how important it truly is for them to make this wonderful franchise available to us all!

TIGHT.

I have already sent them a long email ;) I'm sure response will be great as long as they alert fans to the existence of the movie. I'm sure demand for it will be very high if people know about it.

EVERYONE GET MAILING!

It's mailing time, people.

I'll email them with a couple of my email addresses and also try to get my friends to do so :)

Also, maybe one of us should go to petitiononline.com and make a petition for this? I know petitions rarely get anything accomplished, just a thought.

in my eMail, i asked them about petitioning... they said they'd be more convinced by positive customer response. so LET'S GET THIS BOOGIEPOP FILM LISENCED!!!!! :D

Just a suggestion but if you want more people who have seen boogipop phantom then you should start a thread in animeondvd (www.animeondvd.com) forums.

Theirs quite alot of people their who buy dvds and you should get quite a few ppl siging your petitioning or just for drumming up support

I got rather a bizzare reply from TRSI (pasted):

Hello,

Right now we have no way of telling what is going on with the boogiepop phantom movie. We have no way of getting the rights to the movie. It will eventually be released in this country but as of now we have no access to it.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to call us at 800-338-6827 / 515-252-6116; or email us at info@rightstuf.com

Thank You
Sincerely
Michelle -TRSI, customer service

Edit :: as for Michelle... she didn't even answer my eMail, she just replied saying that she was glad i liked Boogiepop Phantom. so i had to send it a second time making it aware that she hadn't answered my questions... here's what i got the second time{which is what inspired me to make this thread}..

The reply that I recieved

Hello! Thank you for your e-mail.

We have no plans at this time to release the live-action version of Boogiepop Phantom, but if we should do this in the future, we will post the information on our website.

Pfft. What a generic response. I hate generic responses.

I was told on my second email that the rights are not currently up for grabs, but when/if they are rightstuf will bid for them.

Pretty ridiculous how we get so many different responses from the same company.

Only option would be for someone to fansub it. I heard that is supposed to be a bit cheesy (in a japanese way). I might see if I could ask someone I know in japan if it is still around.

Plan B is to learn Japanese well. I e-mailed right stuff anyway.

What I am really interested in is the novels. But there is no chance they would be coming out.

well, who knows what Rightstuf will do. i personally hope they'll get in on it... but we'll see.

i too am mostly interested in the novels.. it's such a shame that not every form of literature is translated.. there's so much material out there i'd love to read but can't find translated. it pisses me off.

Here is my generic response from rightstuff:

Hello,

Thank you for your e-mail

No we don’t have boogiepop in live action and we also don’t have kouhei kadono in the graphic novels.

If you have any further questions, comments, or concerns please call us at 1-800-338-6827/515-252-6116 or e-mail us at info@rightstuf.com.

Thank you,

I saw on one of the Boogiepop trailers that the novels had sold over 1.7 million in Japan. Don't you think that would warrant an English translation? I might just have to get one from japan and learn Japanese. I have read some books that have been translated from Japanese and they are quite interesting.

blegh... i wonder if we'll ever get them -_-

It goes to show what happens if you keep on trying to get their asses moving, especially when it comes to getting the rights of certain animes including this one. BAH! That is one s!itload of an automated e-mail Shadow War. I want the novels damn it! :redhot:

Edit: Not like that's going to work at least its the thought that counts :sweatdrop

well, TRSI doesn't use automated eMails... but none the less, i agree it is definitely a ------ eMail.

as for Boogiepop Phantom, we're discussing the live-action film not the anime. the anime is released on US: TRSI, and AUS:Madman.

I think that there is a low chance that the movie or novels will be translated. I don't know how well Boogiepop Phantom sold on the US or OZ, but I don't think it would have been a huge seller. It is too different for most people to pick up.
