Some parts of it I just didn't get though. Such as: Asuka and Shinji are Kaoru(sensei)'s grandparents? And at the very end whether did they start a new life together, or was it in one of Shinji's blackouts? Any pros around here wanna fill these blanks? :D

At the end they did start a new life together. Shinji made everybody remember how much life was worth living so they all came back except for the ones that liked their little heaven like Gendo.
