Question number of eyes in Evas?

I was wondering why Eva-00 had what looked like one eye, Eva-01 had two and Eva-02 had 4,I can't remember how many Eva-03 had, but can this be explained.

Eva-00 is a test type so they thought that 1 eye might be all that it needed (My opinion)

While i can not answer your question i can ask another good one.

01 when we see its eye close up, it has 4 pupils,
1 large one and a triangel of 3 other small ones,

so 01 would have 8 seeing things all together

perhaps this has something to do with it as well

I think the eyes are just decoration, to make it look good.
Because when shinji is in the Eva he dosen't see eight different screens

Hmm I have another theory on this one, The number of eyes is determined by the pilot because in Unfamiliar Ceiling The eye forms while Shinji is looking at it. There were 2 pilots in unit-02 when It accieved a high synch ratio so 4 eyes, I think Unit-00 actually has 2 eyes but only the one sensor mounted on the Helmet, I think I saw 2 just before it self destructed. Its also the equipment, Unit-02 has more imaging equipment than the others so has more sensors.

once again there is the rummor that they are styled after the 4 horsemen from depictions of the appocalypse, but i haven't seen any proof for this :(

also notice the prototypes have about 5 or six little "eyes" where 00 has its single big one..

I also read that they were modeled after the 4 horsemen from the bible. I remember reading about it in an old ezboard thread.

As far as I can remember the Eva series 5-13 didn.t have any eyes.

Yeah, they only have a big grin on their face.

For some stupid reason though, I keep on confusing the teeth for a kind of visor thing. Don't ask me why though. It just looks like it at a glance.

My thoughts and theories:
That, yes, the main EVA designs were inspired by the barons of hell, one had a single large eye, another had two eyes and a horn in between and another had four eyes paired on top of each other. Also a particular number of eyes symbolizes things, one eye symbolizes power, two eyes... Good will, or trust or something, not sure on that, three eyes (yeah, no EVA has three eyes... Not that we know of) symbolizes wisdom and I don't know about four.
