View Full Version : Finished First Series (ep 1-25)*SPOILERS!!*
Overall...Inuyasha is still a great anime, and I'll persue the series. But I really hope they jack the animation and action back up.
I noticed a big drop in overall action and animation quality between the beginning episodes and later ones. I almost feel like they suckered us in with these battles and intense animation scenes, then got lazy and threw 3 episodes of plot dialogue and paper cut out characters.
Two things to me almost seem to hurt the series. Inuyasha getting the Tenseiga (his sword), and them meeting the Monk fellow, Maroku.
After recieving the Sword, you would think that he would be ripping up Youkai left and right...and the action would increase, but oddly it did not. Mostly because for some reason...Inuyasha sucks with the Tenseiga. It was not untill Sesshoumaru takes it from Inuyasha that you actualy get to see how its done.
And Maroku...well, his Air Void is cheep, not cheep per say, but he ends up doing all the work, that obviously Inuyasha should be doing with the Tenseiga. (Sess wiped out an entire mass of Youkai and a mountain, wtf?)
I do like the twists they took from Feudal age to Modern Age....Espesialy the episode where the little girl's spirit is turning evil, she holds a regret and because of that is basicaly become your standard bad Ghost causing trouble. Again...VERY Vampire Princess Miyu feel (see my other thread).
To me...there is NO reason to slow the series down the way they did. Filler episodes = Youkai battles that should be there anyways. There are still alot of Shards out there, they have whas seems to be alittle less than half. I'm sure Naraku has quite abit...but I'm sure there other random Youkai with shards, and other Youkai that need an arse kicking period.
*crosses fingers for next series to included more arse kicking*

Well, this may have been episode 26, but I could have sworn it was episode 24 or so ...
--**##!!POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!##**--
Maroku, the monk, has some pretty sweet action in one episode. In the beginning of it, his Air Void gets slashed, and he goes to his adoptive parent to ask him for help in healing it. Naraku sets a trap for him and all, since he can't use his Air Void for 24-48 hours after the healing. Naraku sends thousands of youkai to kill him, but Inuyasha, Kagome, and Shippo chan show up and fight them off. Maroku tries to sacrifice himself to save them, and uses his Air Void, but he can only take out half of them or so before Inuyasha makes him stop. Either way, it was filled with some pretty sweet fighting, imho.
In a few more episodes, you'll meet Sango, the boomerang-swinging youkai mercenary. She spices up the action a little bit. Plus, there's another scene in which Maroku takes off Naraku's arm with his staff. That was a really cool move.
Oops, I had the monks name wrong...confused it with boomerang gal, hehe.
Anyways, what you are talking about...must be ep 26, cus that has not happend yet. He has been poisoned by Naraku's Bees, but nothing like what you have said.
Yes, Sango has been introduced by the end of the first series. She rips it up with the BIG arse boomerang hehe. The episode where her Brother gets posessed was pretty darn good.
Overall...I wish the series had a little more animation. ALOT of the movements are simple still frames with a pan, at times its darn near slide show speed. I guess after watching a series like Cowboy Bebop...ALOT of anime would seem that way, hehe.

edit: gah, stupid me, forgot to post and clicked post button *O_o* But yeah, ohh, have to hold back from badmouthing you for badmouthing miroku, and you'll get so see a lot more "action" in later series, i've seen up to ep66, so yah, but i don't think the series is all about action....
I've watched up to episode 58 and I have a rant:
**Possible Spoiler**
Kohaku should be killed already! I mean he keeps on showing up to mess Sango's feelings. Poor Sango. :(
**End**
Shijimi: Are episodes 65 and 66 fillers? I only have up to episode 64 here with me. I noticed that after Inuyasha masters the new Tetsaiga, the story seems to be going nowhere.
I'm thinking about getting the Second part/series...then probably stoping. Hopefully they will put out a Movie with some climatic ending, and i'll just skip to that. 66+ episodes it just rediculous.

66 episodes is rediculous?! Ranma has 161, plus 12 OAVs! O.o Slayers has 78 episodes. 66 episodes just doesn't seem like a lot to me ...
I think the main difference is...IN both Slayers and Ranma (I have Slayers, and Next) they are episodic. Yes, in slayers you have your good and bad guys, and something of a plot...but usualy I watched them out of order and they were still entertaining. Not to mention Slayers, Next, and Try are sort of individual of each other, while Inuyasha is one LONG continuing saga.
Inuyasha, from the beginning was about collecting all of the shards. Then you learn about his brother, and Naraku...once these people are introduced, I expected things to get rolling. Battles, shards collected, Naraku dead and all his shards collected. Of course Sesshoumaru, could still pop in and out...he doesn't have to die, because honestly I think he rocks ^_^
To me...the series just changed. I was really into the Mononoke and Youkai fights they had at the beginning. I'm not an all action guy, but when one can of worms is opened...I expect some kind of resolution before another one is opened, unless the series is short and it all ties together quickly (Lain/Noir). Especialy by the end of the first part...honestly it left me with almost no want or need to finish the series, or at least to see the filler anyways.
Also, as I said before...there are some spots in the Animation that bother me. I think it was the big fight with Inu's brother (when he was using the human arm with the Shard in it) It would pan back and forth between Inu and Sess...and they would be like paper cut outs. their bodies would be stationary, and their heads would rock back and forth with mouth movements being animated...and you would see like Inu's hand come up from the bottom of the screen, and it would be like it was paper on a stick being moved up. A BIG change from the earlier episodse, like the Hair Youkai. Where there was lots of animated action, like moving hair, cuts with blood, and effects.
Compare those two episodes and notice the big difference in animation detail.
It may also be my preference in anime. Most of my favorite series are shorter ones, that have some sort of climax or conclusion in usualy less than 26 episodes: Cowboy Bebop, Lain, Noir, NGE... I also have Slayers, and El Hazard...but even from those two I felt a better sense of completion or story movement than I do from Inuyasha, however NOT better overall animes. I'm still an Inuyasha fan, but I think the series would be much more popular if they kept the pace up to the earlier episodes, and quicked the plot on a little more.

The animation in some of the later episodes (30+) is still a bit static (example is ep 74 which I've just seen), but on the flip side of the coin, some of the episodes have very fluid and pleasing animation. Maybe the animators were short of time. There are some very funny and original episodes later on, but some of the fight scenes may disappoint. There are also quite a few 'filler' episodes (sorry Neojin),where Inuyasha+friends meet random youkai and rough them up. The third beginning sequence has a funky theme song which is very good.
As for the plot, there is just enough to keep the interest - especially with Sesshomaru, although he appears in so little episodes it could make you scream. I've also heard there's a big plot development after ep 75, so don't despair yet anyone who thinks the plot is going down! Like Shijimi said, it's not all about action-some episodes are more to do with themes like love. There also seems to be less happening than in the first 1-25 episodes, where there was a lot of plot and character development.
Yeah, Ko Hakaisha I liked the episode that you mentioned-really emotional. Sango is skilful too, but how many moves has she got-one!! (Hiraikotsu). Learn some more, please!
