Why does everybody love Rei? [Archive]

There seems to be quite a lot of people who relly like Rei as a character, I myself love her and she is my favorite character in Neon Geneisis Evangelion.

The Question is why?

She doesn't really have the personal qualities that are usually regarded as attractive. So...

What is there that attracts us to her so, and what is there about us that makes us so attracted to her?

Normal answer: Cuz she so darn gorgeous.
Loser/geek answer: a do it youself girl/doll, what more you ask for?
Philosophical answer: She is the product of Man playing God. So mysterious.

I myself don't love Rei (I'm more of an Asuka-ite. ;) ) but many love her because of her air of mystery and tragedy that surrounds her. She just has that certain something. And she is pretty cute.

I'm a big Rei fan myself!:)
Reason why I like her so much:

She's cool and quiet unlike Asuka.
She's nice: She even visit Shinji when he was in the hospital.
She's cute: The way she blushed........and how she looks.
She's faithfull: She's very faithfull to Gendo............and I bet when you tell her a secret she won't tell to anybody else.......she's really someone trustworthy.
She's mysterious: You don't know very much about her......and she doesn't talk much either.........she's mysterious.
She's courageous: She isn't afraid at anything unlike Shinji...... *sniff* SPOILERS: Why.....why did she sacrificed herself?
Well there is one thing she's afraid of, being abandoned by Gendo.

Yup, there was threads about these kinda topics! But I guess Eva2000 has deleted alot of old threads a few months ago........I just noticed it since this forum only goes till page 3 right now.

I LOVE Rei because she is a little like me...

And some other reasons:
She is cute, she is beatiful, she is quiet(odd but i like people who dont talk much), she is mysterous, she is nice(I think so), she is smart, she is brave, she now when to talk, she is the same age as me :D , she is willing to give her life for other survival, she knows what she wants, she is always seeking reality

She's a quack! ...All the characters in the series are though!

I don't know exactly why guys (and gals) fawn over her soooo much... Honestly... If I were a guy, I'd be fawning over Misato...

Rei is just too quiet... And quiet people annoy the hell out of me...

I guess she's cute... But she is soooo scary when she smiles... When she smiled in... uhhhh What ever episode it was (When Shinji told her to smile)... I was scared... Seriously... She looks freaky when she smiles... *shudders*

true, true.

But I love her more, because she doesn't wear the masks that society in its hypocresy demands. You can see all other characters wear masks of different sorts. But she, its like she doesn't know how to wear one. That makes her so pure. And also all this aura of mistery and grace that surrounds her makes Rei unique.

Methinks should never have known her, because now, I can't be at ease with reality no more.

I'll agree with PP2... She's freaky. Maybe it's the strange robotic air about her... she doesn't even seem to understand basic human emotions. She's willing to sacrafice herself because she has no will to live. But I guess that and how she acts can be blamed on what she really is. (I won't SPOIL anything). But even though she freaks me out and she's no favorite of mine, she still is a good character.

If you ask me, her popularity comes from the fact that she's exotic. She's mysterious, for one. You don't learn where she came from until the very end. She lives alone, and no one knows who her parents are until the end. Her eyes are red and her hair is blue, which is a rare combination and also serves to create a calm and mysterious air about her. She is also one of the few unselfish characters in Evangelion. Her lack of emotion is puzzling and causes more mystery. The fact that she is half-angel adds to her exotic nature. Hell, who wouldn't want a girl who's not completely human? All this adds together to create an immensly popular character.

I like Rei as an important character in the plot *looks her Rei holding the longevinus lance wallpaper aaaaww it's so cool ^^;;* She is mysterious and she have special episode about her and when you see Rei in the title you eye open wide cuz you wanna learn more about that wierd girl that looks so weak you feel like protecting her ( espacially at the beginning wheb she's hurt) ... well I guess this is why so many people like her ... she's cute, quiet and submissive ... perfect for the shy otaku ! ... I prefer Asuka or Misato personnally.

Yeah, the protection thing kind of appeals to me. I would like to be her knight in shining armor. :D Take her out to dinner or something, etc., and try to give her a better life. Stick up for her when Asuka badmouths her. Heh, I'm daydreaming. :heh:

Well I must admit I am a Rei Ayanami zealot!
I adore her!
Why?
Well she is one of the most interesting characters in the series. She is a pleasure to draw! She is beautiful and innocent but strong and courageous at the same time. She has a hard time but deals with it, which demands respect. She apparantly made her own soul! Which also demands respect. I guess she is sorta appealing to asian ppl becuase of obedience and selflessness. But I also think she appeal to most men and perhaps women becuase of her quietness and the way she allows herself to be bad mouthed by others, which I think a lot of ppl hate and would like to stick up for her. Rei is Rei. And Rei is adorable!

I agree that Misato is attractive as a character but I don't really like the robust over powering person type. Anime characters to me are like perfume, to much makes your eyes water and you end up disliking it, but some are sweet smelling but infrequent and it is those that we yearn for!

I don't see why somebody could hate Rei! But i suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion. Perhaps it's just jealousy?!
Or maybe it's just hardcore Goths who smell like dead cheese and sacrifice lambs on Saturday nights who think that? Who knows!?!

Hmm, well I don't know about others, but I like Rei. But then I like all the Eva women. :o And no, not in that way! :p

The things I like about Rei are:

1) her air of mystery
2) her bravery and strength in spite of her situation
3) how she appears vunerable and fragile
4) how she sometimes seems so sad ... so familiar!
5) her cool blue hair ... I want it! lol

Oh yeah!
Shinji 'cry my pants off' Ikari is a real fighter!!!! NOT!!
The only time he fights any good is cos someone's pissed him off or his mum is fighting for him!
If Rei had half the chance that Shinji did she'd be the best eva pilot.

like i said i like rei but Misato and Asuka are definatly soo much better than her, like who can't like Misato she easily is the best character in the show. and asuka is soo much more lively.

p.s hey does any one know why my custom avatar won't show up???
i have chosen it in my edit options and selected the pic i want but it won't show up

I agree, Misato and Asuka have waaay more personality than Rei.

And you gotta press the Yes button again before you submit your custom avatar.
