Wow, I didn't know Misato was killed by a rocket launcher. I always thought that it was a gun. Its probably the smallest rocket launcher I have ever seen. Even stranger was that the missile didn't explode upon impact. To think that such a weapon exist. :rolleyes:

Yes, she was shot, but did any of you ask yourselves why she just blow up after we see Rei, beside her?
I don't think it's because she turn back to LCL, because she would have been to only character in all the movie to really explode. So what do we have left? Hey do you remember, just like 5 second after she got shot and pass the door with Shinji, the door explode, Waw, and what do we see next... 3 soldier and 1 have a rocket launcher (I'm sure I just imagine that, even if I have recheck that scene about 10 times).
So maybe just maybe, those guys decided to finish the job, wich was their orders by the way, and when they saw Misato dying on the floor, they shot a rocket at her.

So, the thing I should have say is : Misato kind of explode after she was dead.

That huge explosion that finished Misato (yet her vest remains intact!:rolleyes: ) came from a military missle I thought, ground to ground or air to ground or something, it looked pretty big, not just a rocket from a rocket launcher. It's suprising how sterdy they built NERV HQ, missles raining down in from the sky, no real damage, rocket shot at a door, door still fine, big ol' violent explosion, Shinji and the elevator are still perfectly fine.

Well, personnally I think it's the soldiers who launch a rocket at her, because I don't think the elevator would have stiil work if it were a large missile. And the explosion seemed to start exacly from where Misato was, if it's was coming from outside, it would have started from the wall or the ceiling. Anyway thats just my opinion.

But it's weird that even after the explosion, later in the movie we can see her clothes in LCL, must have been really tough clothes.

God everyones minds are foggy about what happned. That scene is like the most, painful scene for me in my entire movie/anime/entertainment watching experience.

For the record, they had planted explosives in that area already and she was NOT killed by a rocket launcher. Note she was in a room near the R*20 elevator. So the attackers would run all the way up and into that room and aim their rocket launcher at her and boom.....No..... They ask a if they should persue Misato and Shinji. The response is "no, because we're going to blow that section up". Just like the previous person posted...

i just rewatched the scene u guys are discussing,






1. Misato and Shinji move towards the R20 elevator

2. You hear gun shots, they run, misato take one in the back

3. They run through the door, it closes, a rocket fires and explodes on the door.

I have to agree with Westlo this time. A portable rocket launcher is generally used for piercing armors or as an antiaircraft gun. Now, what we saw was a big explosion (much more bigger perhaps than a AP rocket or an AA one), so I must presume that the guys planted some kind of explosive to destroy Shinji (the pilot, and their mission), and that explosive destroyed all that room, but if you see that scene frame by frame, you'll see the explosion originated under misato. So they must have planted it on the lower floor from where misato was. I don't think they could have fired a rocket to the ceiling and still be alive. So my bet goes to the explosive device and not the rocket.

Well, I've learn 2 to things from this tread :

1 - That it's more likely that the explosion was cause by place charges than by a rocket launcher, thanks to everyone for that.

2 - That I should'nt post when I'm to tired to think straight
(Why did'nt I just said - Because she exploded after she died - on my first post, WHY!!), now I look like an idiot.

On a serious note, that scene is one of the saddess scene i've seen in a anime, seeing a important character like Misato die, did bring a tear to my eye.
