Alright heres one thing i dont understand. If the EVA units are supposed to be clones of adam and lilith how do they have cockpits in them?

as to why they have cockpits, its so people could control them

The Eva's are clones, but only the outside shell. In one of the episodes, the Eva was realeased from its shell (its armour). The cockpits are so the pilots can control them. The armouor of the Eva isn't part of Adam or Lillith or whoever, but the Eva's have them. In other words they're clones with modifications - a bit like Rei, I spose.

Rei doesn't exactly have a pilot tube in her back and covered in armour! Rei's just a genetic replicate of Yui Ikari. But she does some weird stuff!
