Well after much waiting, I finally got the first DVD and I was watching the first episodes... the main thing that struck me first is:

(look at topic of thread)

It's strange... I like the song. It sorta reminds me of the Pillows how catchy and happy it is... but is it really appropriate for the theme song of Berserk?

Tell me Why(Opening Song lyrics)

Feel no shame about shape
Weather changes their phrase
Even mother will show you another way
So put your glasses on
Nothing will be wrong
There's no blame, there's no fame
It's up to you
The first words should be finded
Whatever hold you back
I can, I can get it off

* Tell me what, Tell me what, Tell me what you want
I don't know why, don't know why, don't know why you afraid
Tell me what, Tell me what, Tell me what you say
I don't know why, don't know why, Too late, it's too late

Have no fear for real
It's just a turning wheel
Once you start up there's no other way
Don't put your eyes on boots
Step forward your roots
There's no aid there's no trade
It belongs to you

# Before you miss something given
You should know what's the truth
I can, I can make it out

* Repeat
# Repeat
* Repeat (x 2)

It's supposed to throw you off so you expect something happy and poppy so it completely destroys you after it gives you the ending...

The theme song is so funny though. It's so engrish...

But you're right about it not suiting the mood of the series. The closing song does this quite well though and I like it much more than the opening.

well it's an awesome song... I'm a big fan of engrish. It reallt reminds me of some of The Pillows non FLCL music... but even just the pictures it shows as a slide show for the opening doesn't fit the poppyness of the song. The lyrics do fit well though.

I think that if they took those lyrics and stuck it to a trigun-esque heavy metal gutair, that's be so much more approprate.

I love the song. It's one of my favorite anime themes songs. In my opinion, the song fits the series in some way. The lyrics seem to suit Griffith best, but that's just what I think.

This is going to sound hypocritical of me, considering I sort of dug the opening theme of NieA_7, but... Berserk's opening has got to be one of the worst pairings of song to anime that I've ever seen. Possibly the worst, period. The song is not the problem; it's a catchy tune. I can't think of a worse series to graft this song to, however. I'd like to buy your explanation, Nairohe. But I don't. Berserk ended up with this opening for the same reason Kenshin's openings have nothing to do with the show: they wanted to sell more albums by the singer. I hate seeing an otherwise excellent show tainted by blatant commericialism like that; the better the show, the less tolerance I have for things like this. And Berserk is a very good show, indeed. Mercifully, the song is short, and the ending at least matches the feel of the show-in sound, if not in lyrics.

It makes no sense to use a song like 'Tell Me Why' as the opening when they have a perfectly good song in 'Forces,' the song which plays during the previews and certain battles.

Commericialism ... a very nasty thing.

I like the song though - of course it doesn't fit with the series at all, but It's hard to complain about such a catchly lil' tune. :p

Honestly, i didnt mind it one bit. It was slightly catchy, but it was also pretty dirty and rugged IMO. At some parts the guitar is blatantly out of tune, which i guess created a kind of rough feeling for me... I thought it was fine

That's actually a good point... I still don't think it's a good match to the series, but you raise a good point, Zepp. Just listening to the tune, I can almost see it fitting. They lyrics alone I can match to the feel of the series. But put it all together and somehow it just doesn't work.

Tell me Why didn't catch onto me, i couldn't like it at all, i strongly dislike this song.

To my it became fitting. The song grew on me and now I can't imagine Beserk without it. It's just great how your (at least mine) perception and interpretation of that song changes in the course of series.

It is catchy, thats a bad thing when you start humming it in a car with 4 other people.

Yeah I liked it. I got the shock value, oh how upbeat. Hmm dark stranger walks into a tavern, OH MY GOD WHAT DID HE DO TO THAT GUY! Thats not right. The music was so happy

I can see why mediablasters opted for the music played during the next episode segment rather than the opening for the preview.
