Question about the first episode

In the first ep where Shinji arrives in Tokyo-3, he looks down the street and sees Rei standing there staring at him. He is momentarily distracted by something(forgot what it was, a helicopter?), and as he looks again she's gone?! What was up with that?

Sorry if that question was answered somewhere already, but I'm new to these boards. :heh:

I read once, that it is because it was actually Shinji going through Instromentality. Which means the whole series is Shinji reliving his experences. This theroy would explain Rei, but it leaves alot of questions unanswered

I've wondered that myself...why does a vision of Rei suddenly appear?

Hrm.....that theory, about Shinji reliving his experiences...I don't see how that could explain Rei at that instant? Obviously the original idea was to send the whole world made, but krist......now I'm gonna have to watch the series again to try and come up with some answers.

That's a cool theory. Like how what happens to everyone in EoE. I like it.

I had heard that one before, but yes, it leaves many things unanswered. Another one I heard is that Rei is unaware of her powers and she can project herself even though she doesn't know it. Although I think this is one of the Eva-unanswerable things like how do they talk in LCL or why don't they bump around the cockpit if they don't have seatbelts.
