Basically, it's a story about a quiet and bookish college girl who's just barely scraping by financially, her loudmouth and greedy live-in "under-class" alien, and the mystery of how the aliens came to be in Japan. Keep in mind that I haven't finished the series yet, just the first two DVDs.

The show in my opinion is basically about nothing. There is no plot as such, it's all about character development and character interactions. Don't watch this anime if you want a classic story arc, that's not what it is about. It is "about" the characters and their lives. There is no "climax" as such, the ending only goes on to emphasis the cyclic nature of the story (in that it's about life in general and not about any specific series of events).

No, it takes a different approach to telling a story. The point is living through the experiences of the main characters and dealing with the situations they create and that are created for them. It's entertaining, but don't expect edge-of-your-seat drama.

It's not the sort of an anime most people are used too. Rather, it takes a different approach: instead of the typical anime that focuses on some adventure, plot, or story, the central focus of the stoiry is on the characters. Also, I found NieA_7 interesting as I finally found an anime character that, well, reminded me of myself (and yes, it IS NieA). Basically, if you want a more action/adventure story, or just about the usual fare of anime, then, this anime isn't for you. After all, it takes a more open, broader mind to enjoy this anime, and that's why I like it.
