When I first saw the series I was ardent that this was just another testosterone driven adrenaline rush that was going to be used to cash in on the Japanese Animation craze current in the US. However as the series has progressed, I've been impressed with my expectations being shattered. I've found YuYu Hakusho to be series with depth to it and in my mind, ultimately superior to DBZ (well these early episodes at least). Why? YYH has the one thing that DBZ doesn't, character development. Sure it's a fighting series but it's one that has characters that are conflicted and 3-D in who they are. Yuusuke may be an ass sometimes but he's also a hero. Kuwabara for all his grandstanding is a loyal and true friend. You can care and feel for these characters unlike DBZ whose cast is just a series of charicatures that you don't give a hoot about. I'm eager to see how Hiei and Kurama develop as characters. Anyone else notice this sort of thing in the series?

What's fun also is that it has diversity, unlike DBZ where it's a contest of who can make the biggest fireball
