Nope, people would think you are mad and have finally gone over the edge with your worship of Eva. Except of course in Japan where the name is probably common (Shinji is a common name I think).
I don't think it would fly too well here. It's a thought that has crossed my mind though before. :D

Why not name your children after fictional characters? If you like the name enough... I say go for it... It's your child, who cares what others really think... I wouldn't name my child Rei though... It's too... Guy sounding... tee-hee (You know, "Ray...")
If I ever named a child after an Eva character it would be Asuka... I just think that name is beautiful.
(Off topic: My favorite anime names this far are Ukyo, Miyu, and ...Well... It's not anime... But Aeris (I'd spell it the original spelling though, 'Aerith.'))

as for ppl thinking that ur crazy for calling your kid Rei, they'd have to know that it's from nge...i mean unless they knew the show too they wouldnt know and would probably think that you're into japanese names (unless of course you live in japan).
i suppose for the people who know that Rei is an nge character and not being in japan - it would be tad strange :)

Heh heh heh, I'm always noticing names I'd use for my kids. Fantasy novels usually have a nice supply of names. :D
I wouldn't go that far.

I would if I didn't love Rei so much, I would feel a little pederast. But say, I wanted to name my kid Glorfindel, so Rei wouldn't be a bad choice. I just hafta find another loving thing before.

I'd name my kid Rei, if people would pronounse it correctly....Re-I but I like the names Emi, Miyuki, Yuki, Riku, Kaoru, Glorfindel, Athena, Umi, Miles, Milo, Touya, Syaolin, Aiko and Yumi a lot, too...
I always wanted to name my kid Maynard Lothar Milhouse....

I like the name Rei ... it is something a little different from the usual names out there. :D However, I don't think my daughter will be named Rei ... not in this lifetime anyway ... it would have to get the approval of my partner as well as myself.
If and when I have a daughter I will probably call her Angel Elizabeth (Angel after my best friend, and Elizabeth being a family name) or Isobelle or Phoebe or Lily, or something pretty like that. :)
If I have a son I can't imagine naming him after any of the anime characters I have watched (and can remember the names of :p ) either. Hmm, come to think of it I am not sure what I will name a son yet. :o Oh well, all in good time! :)
