I avoid anything after the original series (Macross Saga, Defenders and Southern Cross) like burning oil.:p

Well, I would definitely recommend it. Robotech is the series that really got me into anime, so of course I'm a bit biased, but it's definitely a great buy. Of course it's Robotech and a bit Americanized and corny, but it has this odd charm about it still, making it ever so wonderful to behold and watch in all of its old school mecha anime glory. =P

It has a great story, excellent charaters, good to average animation. And it does something that the other "mech" based anime dosen't do. It explains WHY they had to use giant robots. The others just do, and for no real good reason.

I'd recommend watching the Macross Saga, the first part of Robotech. Its actually the only true Macross timeline series. Ideally you'd watch it in its Unedited true form but you'd have to be insanely rich to be able to do that. So ADV's Robotech release is adequate
