From the trailers on eva dvd's, this looks good. I was wondering if you guys could brief me some info about the show and the dvd's. Thanks.

Urghh you like mecha and havent seen it yet?

Basically its a political\military thriller. About a controlling family (business-wise) who owns a company developing some mecha. The main characters are the brothers in a family, the oldest being main, and the youngest being semi-main. The oldest brother is trying to change japan into the old way of thinking and the youngest brother gets cought up in the crap because hes the test pilot for the new mecha. Has lots of spirituality, mystery, drama and some nice action scenes. If you want a show just for mecha, this isnt it, id say mecha is only involved in about 30-40%.

Interesting...box comming out? If not, how many DVD's total?

Also, I like mecha, but I don't watch for mecha. If a show has mecha, it's more of a bonus. The story is what really counts.

8 dvd in total. 4 episodes on first, 3 each other one, except the last which i think has another 4. I didnt buy the boxset, i bought them individually, i have no information on whether a box is comming out soon :(

August 20th it will come out and with ADV, I already see pre order prices of around 100 dollars. ADV probably releases the cheapest box sets, Eva was selling for 99 or less, and BGC 2040 can be found as low as 50-60.

Gasaraki is a bit slow.
So if you want a fast paced Anime then don't even bother because I enjoy it as it is. I don't need 30 mecha battles in one episode to call it a good Anime. Yes it's slow, but it's good.

As long as the story moves along, it's all good, like Noir.

The only slow anime I've seen and didn't like was .Hack//Sign. Way too slow in every way.

The pacing of Gasaraki has been compared to RahXephon and hack.

Also it has a large cast of characters like Xephon.

I couldn't get into it, though it might have been that i had 8 eps of Nadesico I hadn't watched lying there while I was being bored watching this

I'll give it a second chance next week and try to watch the first 8 eps in one hit

Gasaraki is two things. One is an Evangelion/Gundam clone without the charm of its "inspirations". The other is a militaristic fantasy where nationalistic Japanese can see America get trounced and Japan take out the proverbial trash. It takes advantage of Japan's insecurity over losing World War II.

I have only seen the first three volumes, but I did like what I saw. I agree with what Kizzim has said, in that so far it deals more with the political, personal, and historical interaction of the large cast of characters rather than well-animated mecha romps. Assuming a few things to suspend your disbelief, of course, it has a very realistic feel to it and has little humor or light-hearted situations.

If I saw a box set, I'd buy it all, sight unseen, based off what I've watched so far.

[Edit...*cough cough* eh, dammit...]

How could you agree on what TDM said about it being a political thriller when i was the one that said it :)

I really really enjoyed Gasaraki. I didn't really get into it until after DVD 2, and for me everything started to make sense halfway through DVD 3.

Yeah, the show is a little slow paced but it is good. Some of the later episodes are really good. I just finished watching the whole series tonight. I found it to be good; I will have to see it again to take it all in.

Well the politics are fascinating and throughly convincing.
(of course I had to see each ep (V1+2) twice to fully understand it)

But the animation is superb and the level of detail is incredible.
In summary, I'm interested. And I would like to see more.
