Does 2040 get any "darker"?

I'm up to episode 15 of this series, and I admit this is VERY different from the oavs. Does it get darker with the remaining 11 episodes?

Maybe darker isn't the right word. Maybe more ... serious?

I hope so. The last couple I saw, which were episodes 15 and 16 were very good. :D Who would of thought Mackey Stingray was an advanced type of boomer.
