What did you think of both of them. I just saw the first one. I'm going to watch the second one later. I just wanted some thoughts on these movies, the storyline, etc. Judging from the first one it looks good because I like political anime. Police + Robots = Awesome Anime

The second one is more political and less action, but still good anyway.

Ive seen the second one, its a bit slow but i like that political feel to it. And its all worth it in the end with the nice fight between the Labors and those 2 Spider robot thingy

you will find that the Patlabor movies are more plot then action, it was of the reasons i liked them. you could swap the mecha for cars and the movies would still work.

and yes, the second movie is longer but i found it was just as good as the first.

I enjoyed both the movies.., I think that both of them were very cleverly written.., with a good balance of both plot, & mecha action..., I see the Patlabor series more on the lines of a police show.., it just so happens that they use Labors as well as patrol cars..,

It was an interesting conversion in anime type if you watch the orignal series, then the first movie, and then the second…

The way how the animation form changes from abb realism to realism is great… Of course nothing was changed with Goto…_The dog…_:D

You can watch the movies without watching the series its just, i watched both the movies before i watched the series.

The series is good, it isnt an action packed anime but it has good storyline and plot

I watched the movies before the series and I got to learn the characters pretty easily. If I didn't have trouble then I don't think you will unless you are looking for steel breakin robot fighting. If you are don't watch Patlabor at all.

*this post contains spoiler for Patlabor movie 3*

I have just seen movie 3 and it was dissapointing to say the least. In my oppinion this movie shouldn't be called Patlabor at all, the whole Unit 2 and Goto was less than 5 minutes on screen. The plot was thin, plain, obvious and full with mistakes, nothing like movie 1 or 2.

Mistakes:
- When the monster attack at the construction site, it didn't have any armor on, suddenly at the end it entire upper body is covered in a labor like armor. You can say it was dark at the construction site, but the power was turned on at its very last attack and you can clearly see it full body with spotlight on it.
- Supposedly the monster was to be dumped using a regular anti-explosive cargo container which is three times as small as the armor the monster was wearing at the end. For comparrisson the monster is just as tall as Alphons(Noa's petname for her labor), walking on its two arms, if it has legs it would be twice Alphons heights.
- The monster is attracted to high frequenzy above 25kHz, apparently only certain labors, DAT tapes and LP's can achieve this kind of frequenzy, they just conveniently forget about Super Audio cds, DVD audio, radio transmission and whatever future technologie to enhance music.
- Civilian tech is suddenly superior to military tech, cause they need Section two to help them beat the monster.
- At first the military wants the monster intact and suddenly they burned it, if they wanted to keep it a secret why the hell involve civilians.

I like Patlabor 2 - Okay so maybe it made more sense upon watching Patlabor1 FIRST but it's still a good anime. Plus, for an anime made ten years ago, it hasn't aged at all.

Mind you, the imagery of Japan going to martial law it is still frighteningly relevent in this day and age as the planet goes to hell around us.....
