Ive been 'surfing' the net for a while now, looking for basically anything that has to do with Boogiepop. Most of the sites are in japanese it seems, but i did stumble across something that looked interesting:

This just leaves more questions... Like what the hell that animation is from. I dont think this has been posted before, but the art is noticeably different from the series.

rumours i've heard thusfar:

the animated footage is for a new Boogiepop animated film.
the animated footage is for a new Boogiepop seres.
the animated footage is for a short OVA series.
the animated footage is exclusively for the commercials promoting the novels.

other thoughts Gigasheep and i have discussed:

the animated footage is for a new Boogiepop animated film based on the live action: Boogiepop and Others.
the animated footage is for a new series that incorporates a great deal of information in the novels that the animated series hadn't gone into. perhaps more on PoomPoom... or [as i'd hope moreso] more on Echoes/Scarecrow.

My guess would be that it was an animated promotional comercial for the live action movie.
I found something interesting in one of my old fansubbed boogiepop discs. The cover had screen shots from the 'comercial' which could mean several things...
Maybe it was something promoting the actual series in japan? I would hope that it was an OAV or new series, but i dont know if they would have put it on the boogiepop cover if it was.

It could just be the distributors of this fansub putting random pics together... at least this clears up that the comercial was probably around when Boogiepop (the series) was somewhat new in Japan

it seems they just picked random pictures. as for the commercials though, as far as i've heard, they aren't that old.

besides, there are many pictures that are original artwork that is VERY CLOSELY matched and animated for those commercials.
