Plot - About a guy, named Otaru residing in Japoness, on Terra II (Terra II is a copy of Earth, hence the whole space exploring has gone beyond the reaches yada, yada, yada). In a male dominant planet, the only source of a woman is a marionette. They are like androids/puppets with no human emotions.
However, Otaru was exploring the historical museum of Japoness as he stumbles upon a hidden room with an actual marionette name Lime whom he awoke. She may look like a standard one but this one is a special type becuase she has a maiden circuit. This particular circuit allows a marionette to carry out the emotions of an actual human girl/woman. A few episodes later, he awakened Cherry and finally, Bloodberry. Of course, he has to put up with his so-called friend, Hanagata.
But, lurking and pondering in the land of Gartland, resides Faust and his marionettes, Luchs, Panther and Tiger, which they also have a maiden circuit as well. His plot is to take over the continents...but his true intentions...Can't tell you that!

Animation - Good stuff! I can't simply describe it in any other word but that's the best way I can give you

Characters - Mamiya Otaru (The hero!), Lime (tomboy, cute and a childish marionette), Cherry (the overly girly girl but a caring and analytical marionette), Bloodberry (laidback but a strong-willed marionette), Mitsurugi Hanagata (the comic relief who thinks highly of himself...and is infatuated with someone... ;) ), Faust (The bad guy), Tiger (opposite of Lime's personality but possesses Lime's strength), Panther (possesses abilities like Bloodberry's), Luchs (has the same abilities as Cherry's)

Music - Two words: Hayashibara Megumi! That's right! The seiyuu (voice actor) and singer of the opening theme, Successful Mission and the ending, I'll be there

Development - Priceless, sweet moments and understanding where each person stands in the series

Overall rating - This is just my opinion only so bear the weird comments and so forth...I LOVE IT! You learn more of all the characters by the time the series is completed. After this, I recommand watching the following: Saber Marionette J-Again, Saber Marionette J to X and finally, Saber Marionette R. I give it an A! :kawaii:

Though there is a rumor that the final installation before SMR is floating. Someone care to clarify this for me?

Edit: Recalling from memory the characters of Saber Marionette J can have its moments, especially when you haven't seen them since last year.

I assume this is supposed to be "SMJ", not "SBJ"...

Saber Marionette is one of my favorites.

Oh, Miko, you said Luchs (possesses abilities like Bloodberry's)

but you meant Luchs possesses abilities like Cherry's. Luchs is the blue-haired marionette. I think it's funny how both Cherry and Luchs have wild fantasies and act them out in person...:p

Anyways, Miko's explanation is very thorough, but if it makes it any less confusing, Terra 2 was not really a copy of a planet, it was just some planet they came across. No women survived the landing from space to the planet, so they were forced to make clones of the 6 survivors. 300 years later, it is an entire planet populated only by men, and marionettes, all of which are female androids. Due to the limits of technology, none of them exhibit any form of emotion, but all of that changes, doesn't it;)

I hope I didn't give too much of the story away, but seeing as the first episode immediately gives that info away, I don't think I'm crossing the line...

It's because when I first posted in this thread, I'm recalling the characters from memory and I was confused on Faust's marionettes at the time.

Though I finally got Saber Marionette J-X recently so the characters are coming back to me once again. :heh:

Might as well fix bits of my post then...

Saber Marionette is almost without a doubt, the most underrated and underappreciated series of the late 90's. Most of Dragon Magazine's good anime titles have had great success here in the US. SMJ's has only been moderate. It's about the only "mainstream" series that still has more of a "cult" following, but there's not much to hate about it.
