View Full Version : What's the point with Rin anyway?

Why's the coolest, semi-evil anime character is a long time having this little girl (who has so far shown no use to him) follow him across Japan? I can't exactly remember how he came across her, but I remember it wasn't anything too dramatic. Also, I've seen the "In the next episode..." part of episode 79 and it seems to Sesshoumaru is going to be fighting Naraku over her. Am I the only one more than slightly baffled by this?

Rin is the character that made Shesshomaru to care for humans, becuase of her i think Shesshomaru is going to turn into somone better. Rin is not a main character but small and important part for the character of Shesshomaru.

Yeah, but why did he pick him up in the first place and why is he still letting her follow him? It's obvious she's of no use to him and she would only get in dangerous situations if she follows him to battle. If he'd really cared about her, than he'd probably just left him at a village or something.

Sesshoumaru met Rin when he was wounded (after Inu Yasha used the wound of the wind on him) and she, very kindly, tried to give him food. Afterwards he found her dead and wanted to check Tenseiga's power, so he revived her. She just followed him after that. I don't think that he really minds her, she's less annoying than Jacken...

oh,
and I saw episode 80...

Sesshoumaru is not fighting over Rin (at least that's what he claims). Naraku ordered Sesshoumaru to kill Inu Yasha if he wants Rin back, and no one orders Sesshoumaru (especially if it's for a human girl), so he just wanted to kill Naraku because he gave him orders...

i always wondered why he'd let her follow him around, but then again, say he wants the tessaiga, and the tessaiga is supposed to be used when protecting humans so i figured that if he keeps rin around then if he can get his hands out the tessaiga he can use it since he'll have a human around him that he cares for? (even it's just a little microscopic bit or caring)

In ep 82:
Sesshoumaru did seem to have some kind of reaction from Naraku, while running away, telling him to "save his little girl." After that, instead of going after Naraku and finishing him off, Sesshoumaru went to save Rin.

Fluff lets her follow her because he can't do that much about it. He won't kill her and she'll follow him no matter where he goes. After a while he doesn't mind her following. He does care for her but he doesn't want to show it. His warped sense of honour probably thought (somewhere in the beginnig) he should save her because he owed her, he obviously already knows of the power of the Tenseiga before he revived her and I don't think he's to fond of the fact he ows a human anything.
The biggest reason as to why fluff went after Rin instead of Naraku was pride. No one kills anyone around him or close to him, especially not some patch work hanyou.
The really amazing part (spoiler) is when he spares Kokaku. Though he dislikes being manipulated. Does he dislike being manipulated by Naraku more that he hates humans ? And did he always think like this ? Or did Rin change him anyway ? Meh, probably a bit of all.

Rin is becoming an integral part of the plot since ep.78 or so (spoilers):

what with her child-like qualities permeating the ice-cold heart of Sesshomaru, paving the way for a joint assault on Naraku, possibly undermining his invincibility. Sesshomaru seems to respect humans more and hence begins to accept Inuyasha as his ally. Jaken and Rin also seem to be getting closer- maybe Rin just raises the morale of the trio (or foursome if you include their two-headed beast). The theory by foxfire earlier seems like a good one too. Sessho says he's going to bust up Naraku not because of Rin....... but it looks suspiciously like he's just trying to cover up his desire to save Rin (he probably wants to rescue Rin and bust Naraku up).
One more thing: Rin certainly loves Fluffy!!

A friend of mine says he thinks that when Rin will grow up Sesshoumaru will probably marry her, and that they will call their hanyou son InuSesshou...

ROFLMAO!!! :D

I don't really think Sesshoumaru spearing Kohaku was that odd. The reason he gave, not doing what Naraku wanted him to do, was good enough for me. Allowing Rin to follow him and bother to rescue her was a bit odd imho. Takahashi's messing up her characters again. *grumble grumble*

No, I think it's more likely she's pulling an Inuyasha with Fluff. Like Doggy seemed to hate kykyo and all other humans at first and later on they 'suddenly' had an affair.
So at first Fluff is depicted as a badass and now she's changing his image, bringing on nuance.

:D
What a twist that would be! Is this the real reason why he lets Rin follow him?

Where else would she go? aswell I think Sesshoumaru found out that it doesn't matter if you are human or not, it's who you are that matters. But he could just let her follow for the sake of it, It's excaclty about whats the point of Shippo, he's had his part in the story and bearly does anything.

No, Shippou is kawaii comic relief. Rin actually serves as a point for Fluff from a character development point of view. Even if Rin is just Fluff's Kryptonite or perhaps his yellow sun, her being there is more than just pleasing your target audience.

I think it's cute how she follows him :) like he's so evil, yet he has a soft spot after all. I don't know why he does, but maybe he does love her (as a daughter) and might see her as family. If that were the case wouldn't he fight harder when she was around, because his instincts want to protect her?
