View Full Version : Wolf's Rain - The new Studio Bones (RahXephon) Anime
Wolf's Rain will be the new anime that Studio Bones are going to work on. After doing these animes it should be something good.
Escaflowne Movie
Cowboy Bebop Movie
Angelic Layer
RahXephon
Taken from a post off the AnimeOnDVD Forum
Wolf's Rain is created by the planner/writer of the Bebop series and movie and it also shares the same character designer. It should be airing in Fall and many expect it to take over RahXephon's timeslots once it concludes sometime in September.
I got a plot synopsis on Newtype translated with some help from Jascii
Wolf's Rain
A planet controlled by the elite higher class known as "The Nobles". An injured wolf drifts to a domed city of ruins. His name is Kiba (Fang). He seeks the promised land of legend, "Paradise". Kiba makes the city his home. He comes across the young ones, Tsume (Claw), Hige (Whiskers) and Tooboe (Howl). Although they are shocked by his wild nature, the wolf tries to fit in with them. However, the humans have noticed their activity and the chase is on.
Note that all the "wolves" (no, not our wolve) mentioned in the story actually look like humans and are experiments (I think) that made them to either have wolf-like abilities/personalities or werewolves. One thing is for sure. this does NOT look like Bebop at all
I've looking forward to it anyway.
I can only judge by what I've seen of Bebop cos I haven't seen Escaflowne etc. but it's sounds like an interesting series.
After doing a few threads on other forums I've gotten ahold of some pics/scans from the animenation ppl

At the moment I'm trying to find out who is composing this series. So if you find out feel free to post the info here.
Well I know who's composing the music for this series, the opening at least.
Yoko Kanno
She's teamed up with Maaya Sakamoto again to do an opening theme for an anime, though I don't know if Kanno is composing the whole series or just the opening like RahXephon.
Quote
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A sneek preview trailer of Toshihiro Kawamoto's upcoming work, Wolf's Rain, was shown at Anime Expo New York. For those of you who don't know, Kawamoto was the character designer for Cowboy Bebop and has worked on various animes such as Gundam 0080, Gundam 0083, and Patlabor. From what I've heard from people that saw this trailer, Maaya performed an English song for Wolf's Rain. Yoko Kanno also composed the music for this trailer, so it's quite likely she's composing all the music for the anime. I'll post more info about Maaya's involvement in Wolf's Rain as I find it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And here's what some people from AXNY said
The trailer features a song, with Maaya singing in English.
A friend of mine stuck around to catch the promotional trailer. I had to run off elsewhere, at that time. However, my friend owns the "Other Side of Midnight" CD. He commented to me, afterwards, that Maaya's English, in the Wolf's Rain trailers, was MUCH better, than anything on that CD. Wow. Stiring praise, indeed.
I wish I could've seen it, but I think (or is that hoping?) that the November Japanese NewType will include the trailer. I don't see why it wouldn't, since Wolf's Rain kicks off, in October.
On another note, Yoko Kanno was even more amazing, this time around! I ran into her, several times, in the Marquis. In on of those instances, a friend and I thanked her for helping produce Maaya's music. We both felt that Maaya's gifts deserves all the love and attention that YK gives to her.
Also, we asked her, if she would ever invite Maaya, to join her at a convention. She vehemently shook her head, smiled, and said, "No." Unfortunately, we're not sure if she just meant NY, or the US. She understood a good amount of English, but the question might've been interpreted wrong. Hopefully, YK just meant NY. We'll have to wait and see.
The song was very haunting, more ethereal than Hemisphere but equally compelling. As others have said, Maaya's diction was better than ever, and the song was very fluid. If this is any indication, Wolf's Rain should have an excellent score.

I don't know... Looks a lot like Bebop to me. Unless you meant the story sounds nothing like Bebop, which I'll agree with. I have no great love for the Escaflowne movie, but Studio Bones evidently has quite a pedigree when it comes to good-looking animation. And another Sakamoto/Kanno team up, to boot? Even if it is just the opening, that sweetens the deal. Interesting setting, too. Hmm...
I'll have to keep an eye on this one.
Yep this should have excellent animation and music from what we know so far. The character designs should be good imo since Kawamoto is one of my fav character designers (Gundam 08th ms team, Bebop) but someone else might not like his style.
There's only one way to find out how good/bad this is going to be.
Here's a report on Wolf's Rain from AXNY that AnimeOnDvd did
http://www.animeondvd.com/press/conventions/axny2002/wolfsrain.php
Got some more information on this as well
Storyline
The earth entered the glacial period, and all creatures were on the brink of extinction. People are divided into two groups ( small number of aristocrat and commoner who lost hope and the purpose to live ) in the city which is covered with the dome.
One boy Kiba appear in such a town. He is the lonely wolf which don't have parents and a brother. Though his externals are wolves of the wild, the supersonic wave included in the cry act on human brain and his externals look like "human". There are a lot of wolves which lived in the human society in this town. Most of them live as a human being in this town to get a little food.
However, Kiba is different. He is aiming at "Paradise" which is in the end of the world. It is said that the paradise is the only place where a wolf can live having pride. Tsume, Hige and Toboe believe in Kiba, and their travel to the paradise starts.

Thats all the information I have so far on Wolf's Rain, it is set to air sometime this year but does not have an air date so far. It will most likely not air in this October's anime season and it wouldn't suprise me if it started january next year.
And Studio Bones wwebsite has 4 pictures from the show and they look quite good imo.
Any official debut date yet?
From what I heard (I can't confirm it but If I can be stuffed I probalby can if it's true) Yoko kanno has been booked to do the entire score for Wolf's Rain and not just the opening like with RahXepon.
Also Wolf's Rain starts January the sixth and let's hope Studio Bones don't have problems with it like they did RahXephon which had multiple delays (1 26 ep series starting late Jan ends in septemeber) and had an ep done by a filler studio which was very noticeable.

OOOOOHHHH Yoko Kanno! Sounds good so far. I hope she deosn't have the same difficulties she said she had with matching the theme like in Stand Alone Complex. (Can she do two series concurrently?!)
I hope they don't strain themselves on time too. I'd rather wait longer for them to make a good series than see the quality drop. But oh well, they have a deadline that can't wait I suppose.

Wolf's Rain ED Song
I now have confirmed Maaya is indeed working on the upcoming Wolf's Rain anime series. Maaya performs the ending credits song "Gravity" according to Bone's web site (http://www.bones.co.jp/ur/ur.html) (the company producing the anime). Perhaps this is the song used in the trailer shown at Anime Expo New York, perhaps not. On a related note, Yoko Kanno is the composer for the soundtrack and Steve Conte performs the OP song. Maaya's official site doesn't mention anything about a new single, but hopefully it will be updated soon.
Cowboy Bebop fans might remember Steve Conte was the singer for the version of Rain that appeared on the CB OSTS. I think he did some songs for the Movie as well.
The Bones (http://www.bones.co.jp) website has some new pics of Wolf's Rain up as well and if looks are anything this is a winner already.
The Cowboy Bebop feeling get's stronger

Yoko Kanno's New Anime Series in Japan: Steve Sings!!!
We can't tell you too much about this because it's still "in the works"...but one thing is for sure- Steve Conte is back singing with Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts!
The new animated series, entitled "Wolf Rain" takes place on earth after a future ice-age. It will be animated by the same people who did Cowboy Bebop and as usual, Yoko wrote the music, Tim Jensen wrote the lyrics and the Seatbelts played it!
Last month Yoko came from Tokyo to NYC to record Steve on three new songs at Soundtracks Studio. They recorded a song called "Stray", and two versions of the title song "Wolf Rain"... one with the Seatbelts and one with Steve solo on a nasty, funky acoustic guitar. The sessions were engineered by the great Joe Chiccarelli who was Frank Zappa's main engineer for 20 years and just recorded the new Elton John album.
That's about all we know right now but stay tuned for more updates!
Yoko Kanno, Maaya Sakamoto & the Seatbelts, musicaly this is really shaping up good. Be interesting to see how the writer for bebop handles an anime that is not as episodic as bebop unless this is going to be episodic as well.

Wolf's Rain is really looking good! I just get more and more excited about it the more I hear. The photos, the staff, the plot teasers. Top-quality! Now if I can just get my hands on that trailer...
I hope Wolf's Rain is as good as Bebop, but its definitely no "Bebop clone". Sounds like Wolf's Rain is going to deal with some interesting issues, and the setting itself is pretty cool. (Post-futuristic ice age?! Paradise at the end of the world?! Interesting...)
And I like how the music was described as "haunting". I think "haunting" and "promising" are my two favorite anime adjectives right now, and they both apply pretty well to Wolf's Rain.
So January 6 it airs in Japan? I've got that marked on my calender. :D (Though its not like I can watch it but whatever...)
The first episode has aired...
Does anyone know any groups who are going to sub this and if it's AnimeJunkies don't bother to mention them.
Dirty AJ... I want my ex-Driver Movie and I'm not about to fish through them... bah.
Anyway, I haven't heard of any groups yet, but I doubt there would be less than 3 groups that would choose to do this.... eh, probably.

Well Spectre Anime (SpA) are planning on fansubbing this for sure. Then again, their quality is a little iffy although they have imporved tremendously.

NIIIICE!!!!! I'm also noticing a lot of glaring, bright green in the pics of Wolf's Rain released so far. I wonder if that's significant/symbolic? It looks good anyway. With the same writer and director from Cowboy Bebop, how can it go wrong?
Also, I was checking out the voice actors list for Wolf's Rain on AnimeNfo. There are quite a few new VAs, and there are some familar names:
Kouda Kaho who voices Karasuma in Witch Hunter Robin is Cher Degre. Is that the blonde woman with glasses in those pics?
Miyamoto Mitsuru is Hubb Lebowski, also voiced Roger Smith (Big O), Shirikawa Sensei (the only reason I watch this show: Piano), and Kisaragi Itsuki (Rahxephon).
And Quent Yaiden is voiced by Ishizuka Unshou otherwise known as Jett Black!!!! He has a very distinctive voice. I wonder what his new character is like?
There's an article on this in January's issue of Newtype. It looks and sounds really good. I'm contemplating ditching GitS to concentrate on this.
ANbu have already fansubbed the first episode of WOlf's Rain which aired 2 days ago.
Damn thats amazing speed.
Wow, what an excellent start to a series. Story seems interesting, but only one episode so not much of an informed comment there :P. The animation is even better than BONES' last series, rahxephon, which is saying a hell of a lot. No mis-steps in this first episode; can't wait for the rest.

Lots of groups are taking up Wolf's Rain! So far:
Live Evil [LE]
Ansatsu Senjutsu Tokushu Butai [anbu]
Anime-Keep [Anime-Keep]
AnimeJunkies [aj]
and Spectre Anime [SpA]
So which groups would posters here recommend in terms of accuracy, quality, nice looking fonts? ( I know AJ is pretty much out of the running right now.)
Okay when I found out Anbu subbed it I was about to get off since the mechanic came to fix my car which ended up costing 1 grand...anyway like I said I had to get off.
I got back on later and found out it was a joint project between Anbu & AnimeKeep. You have probably seen their work on Kiddy Grade and you can't knock the subbing for that (heard that show improves as well after ep 8 hmm you didn't get more eps of it did you?).
So we got
Anbu & Anime-Keep
Live-Evil
Spectre Anime
& AnimeJunkies
Peronally I'm going for Anbu & Anime-Keep, their Kiddy Grade was great quality, Anbu have done excellent releases before with HQA (RahXephon, SaiKano, Witch Hunter Robin) and AnimeOne (Macross Zero , Naruto).
BTW aren't you off cable for the time being?

SpA is a bit strange. Their work on encoding 12 Kokki ranges from absolutely positively flawless (ep1), to bizarrely blurred (ep7).

I just downloaded ANBU & Anime-Keeps fansub of the first episode and all I can say is wow! This series has opened really well and hopefully will continue to be this great. The animation is really good and the story is very interesting. I can't wait for episode 2!

Nah, I still stopped at Episode 3. You're right the subbing quality was fine, it was just the show itself I didn't care for. :D If it gets amazingly better, maybe I'll check it out.

True true. I'm leaning towards Anbu & A-keep too. I might check out Live-Evil just to see what their version looks like. They've done a fairly good job with some not-so-popular titles like Condor Hero. (I think that was them...) AJ and SpA I'll pass.
BTW aren't you off cable for the time being?
Yeah, so I'm just keeping up with what fansubs are out, but I can't get any of them right now. But I'll get my regular connection again soon and then I'm gonna get the rest of WHR and Wolf's Rain ASAP!!!!! I'm surprised I even lasted this long without it...
Check out www.maayasakamoto.net for news on the Wolf's Rain single and OST release's.
The opening and ending are nice, haven't watched the ep yet.
on another topic AnimeJunkies are cool, but didn't like my chan called anti-aj for some reason which died an early death when i banned/kicked an ircop....that was a mistake stupid killshok.
Episode 2 has been released by Anbu/Anime-Keep & AnimeJunkies.

I got Animehaven's release of the first ep, and I'm quite impressed. Great music (especially the OP) and an intriguing storyline.
I had downloaded about 66MB of Anbu's release of ep 2 when they announced that they were going to re-encode it, though, so I haven't seen ep 2 yet... it should be done tomorrow.
*pats his poor 56k modem*
Yay I'm not the only one dling it on 56k.
Guess I'll wait for the reencoded version by Anbu.
56k all the way ^_^
Episode 2 was good. Though the "bad guy" didn't really do much for me. Other than that I though it was a great episode, I think they are pulling off the premise well.
I just finished watching the first episode and have decided that I would now rather follow this rather than anything else *kicks GitS off the shelf*
Animation was great, both opening and ending songs were great, general music throughout the show was great and storyline was intriguing (and great :p)
So is this coming out weekly in Japan?
Yep it runs weekly.
I'll edit in the day it airs later tonight.
I really enjoyed episode 2. I thought the "bad guy" wasn't too bad. Can't wait for the next episode.

I think I'll wait and see a bit more before I make that judgement of him :) He was only in it for about 5 mins.
Those five minutes of him didn't grab me though. When I think back over some of the great anime villian the thing they almost all have in common is that they get your attention straight away.
Of course there are always exceptions, and perhaps this is one of them.

Really interesting, seeing as I consider myself particarly involved with wolf-kind ^3^
I finally got around to seeing the first episode of this (yes I'm late, but it's like the second digi sub I've seen this year)
It was certainly interesting and has heaps of potential but I can't see how this (and one more episode) has had more people calling it the best anime since Evangelion/Escaflowne/Bebop than there are people who think .hack//sign is dull.
The opening reminded me of a Sting song, the ending song was a slow paced one that was nice and the BGM was done nicely.
Can't really say much about the characters apart from they have nice designs.
Nearly finished dling episode 2 and now ep 3 is out. Too much stuff to dl and not enough bandwidth.
Westlo:

You listen to people like that?
If they are fickle enough to make statements such as that based upon only one or two episodes, then they are just as prone to change their minds after seeing another couple of episodes.
Of course I don't listen to people like this, I just made an observation about them since theres quite a few people saying this stuff over anime forums and IRC
You need to watch a decent amount of a series before you can see what it's capable of doing and all of it to fully judge it, but saying it's the next greatest anime (or complete crap) after 1-2 episodes is wrong. Don't get my wrong people Wolf's Rain just might be, it has the potential, but at this stage that's it.
BTW I see you are having fun with a shape at AN, good luck resolving that one. The first time I took notice of him was on AOD forums where he rubished about 15 anime series based on one episode and even though a million and one people said you can't judge a series on one episode it's well like talking to a brick as you have found out.

this thread has got me intrested in the series, im going to have to watch a episode or two
I've seen the first 3 eps of Wolf's Rain, and it's got me hooked. I can't wait for the rest of the series... it's an awesome show.
The third episode was good. I like the fact that this series gets to the point quickly. The biggest problem I had with Witch Hunter Robin was that for the first part of the series there was episode after episode of essentially the same thing. This launched straight into the story, and has never slowed down.
Of course it may slow down yet, but so far I think it's great.

Yeah, I'm familiar with his Noir rants on AOD so I knew what I was getting myself in for. It seems that thread has finally been resolved though now, which means we can actually get on to discussion the show itself. I just found it ironic that the "defence" that some Eva fans use of "If you don't like the show, then you obviously didn't understand it", was being used in exactly the same way to "defend" Rah.
Yep, third episode was good as well.
An interesting band of characters that I'm sure will provide a good story later on. Kiba, proud and ready to take anyone on. Hige who likes to go with the flow. The young and naive, Toboe and finally Tsume, well I don't really know how to describe Tsume :heh:
EDIT: Stubborn! That's how I'd describe Tsume. Just took me a few hours to find the word.

Yes the famous Noir rants of the Shape, I find it sad no Noir fans on AOD can actually shut him up about that considering he's seen 1 episode. Unless of course he recently watched more episodes of an anime he absolutely hates for some reason....

I also found that ironic, another reason Rah rips off Eva

Can someone confirm that WR is being shown in Japan on Monday nights?

I just don't get how it takes a *genius* to see through the heavy-handed and stripped-down philosophy of Evangelion--all that *might* be needed is a very basic understanding of absurdism. Really, people get too caught up in all that self-indulgent and mostly superfluous religious symbology.

Finally got around to watch episodes 3 and 4, and I'm continuing to enjoy the series. The one action scene at the end of episode 4 was very cool. :)
MDWigs, I know what you're talking about. I remember a Hellsing thread in which he insisted on putting down the show and it's fans because he thinks it's crap. I remember he said some bull like, "It really shows you the state of anime fandom when a show like Hellsing is popular. I understand that he hates the show, fine, whatever. But it just got ridiculous with his criticizing anime fandom, though someone was finally able to shut him up.
Yeah, unfortunately ep4 was the typical cliché crap about how a loner realizes that he's not alone, blah, blah blah, bleh. Considering how I didn't think that a single scene in RahXephon was actually wasted, this comes as a disappointment to me.
Akwan, I know what you mean. I hate those assholes. It reminds me of one guy who said something like "If people like band X and band Y, it means that there are too many ----s and fags in the metal community."
Ep 5 is out now by Live-Evil. Damn they're good :)

AK&AnBu have released 5 today. ^_^
And AnimeTradingPost is doing Wolf's Rain as well, they released episode 5 the same time as Live-Evil and AJ.
I still haven't seen it since the sluts at @home have banned me from AF and IRC. So I'm HTTP all the way. ;_;
Anyway from what I have seen it seems good. Love the opening, great ending, inspiring even. I have mixed feelings about the lone wolf (Tsume) bonding already, but that could be a good sign. This way there could be a lot, and especially interesting plot twists ahead. This series already have waiwai-ing fangirls by the way? If not it deserves them.
Just a note, i wonder if we'll ever see the transformation from Wolf to Man?

I don't think so. If you haven't caught on yet, it seems that the wolves exist in a dualistic state, man and wolf simultaneously.

For those interested in manga the Wolf's Rain manga will start in April.
Also did episode 6 air at all this week?
I really don't know. It's unusual to take so long so I'm guessing it hasn't.
After a three week hiatus WR episode 6 is out and a damn good one at that. I like Tsume's character more after this episode. I also like all these little side plots that are going on like will they reach Paradise? What happened to Cheza? Where did Cher go with those strange men? Will the wolf hunter find a new bar to drink at? And is Hubb going crazy?
All I know is I can't wait for more but I hope they don't decide to go on another long break.

Episode 7 has restored my faith in this series. After being disappointed by a pure-filler episode 4 and the somewhat unecessary side-plot of 5&6, the show gets back on track.
If it maintains this new direction, Wolf's Rain is shaping up to be one of the best shows this season.

Well, looks like there's one female in the group now, so, fortunately your sausage party will have to wait.
Apparently there is going to be a 2 week break between episodes 9 and 10 :|
This is RahXephon all over again.
Let's hope theirs no RahXephon ep 21 in Wolf's Rain.
For those who don't know RahXephon ep 21 was giving out to another studio and the animation went from seconde to none to average.
I hope that doesn't happen to Wolf's Rain like it did RahXephon.
I just finished watching the first 9 eps... and rewatching them... and rewatching them. :heh: I haven't been this impressed with a new anime for awhile. The story's more original than a lot of other new anime that I've glimpsed. The characters are interesting - I don't think there's a single main character that I don't like, even the bad guy, which I'm assuming is supposed to be Darcia. The music is awesome (kudos to Yoko Kanno yet again), and despite my initial dislike of the opening song, it's now stuck in my head for good. Maaya Sakamoto's English on the ending song was perfect: none of that incomprehensible engrish jibberish.
I hear the animation's supposed to be very fluid.... but with my files as crappy as they are I just can't pick that up through all the jerkiness. Plus, about halfway through each of the episodes, the sound gets thrown off, so words/sounds end up playing about ten seconds late. And still, despite this, I'm hooked. The bad files just make me want the dvds even more... just so I can see what I'm missing.
So Wolf's Rain was done by Studio Bones, the same people who did RahZephon, right? I'm not sure when RahZephon was first broadcast in Japan, but it seemed to come out on dvd over in the US pretty quickly. Hopefully.... Wolf's Rain will do the same?

Studio Bones is doing very well for themselves. I hope their quality stays high, unlike Gonzo. (Blue Submarine Number 6 rocked. Vandread was pretty cool. Full Metal Panic was fun. Kiddy Grade sunk.)

Studio Bones were the same people who did RahXephon as well as doing the movie versions of The Vision Of Escaflowne & Cowboy Bebop. RahXephon premiered in Japan in Januray 2002 and finished in September 2002 due to numreous delays for some episodes much like Wolf's Rain right now.
Will Wolf's Rain be brought over quite as quick, well itmight depend on who licenses WR for one. RahXephon was licensed by ADV and many people are saying that Bandai are funded Wolf's Rain so they should get it. Though Bandai can bring series over pretty quick, .hack//sign started in April last year and is already airing on Cartoon network.
Anyway if you want to know what Studio Bones are upto next continue reading.

I thought it was good even though not much really happened. Ended with a bit of a surprise though. I guess that gives the series somewhere to go.

Too true. It's the only OST I've paid to import myself, because no places over here sell it yet and I needed to have it.... :heh:

Episode 11 was really good. I looked through this thread and it wasn't answered. So I pose this simple question
How many episodes will there be? From the pace of the show one woudl think it could go well past 13 eps, but the events in episode 11 could bring to an end in 13 eps as well which is why I'm asking. :heh:
Also to note, anyone else notice that for the most part, that the the women in the show are all tending to have purple eyes? I thought it was just the doctor untill that lab assistant woman showed up briefly.
26 episodes Cloak.
Episode 12 is out and a damn fine one as well. A few little twists in it to keep things interesting.

From every other source I've heard its gonna be 13 episodes, so could you give me the source from where you heard it was gonna be that long? Not that I don't trust you, its just that this is the first I've heard of it being that long. I'm gonna be very happy if that is accurate, as not only do I not see them able to finish off the series in one ep, but I also find it the best anime I've seen since RahXephon and would gladly welcome 14 more eps as opposed to 1. :D

Well well I finally got around to watch this show at my anime club. After seeing the first 3 episodes, I'm impressed.
The animation quality and all the character designs are great. Hot bishies, but that's not to trivialize their characters. They definitely have distinct personalities that aren't just "young kid", "ladies man", "loner", etc. and seem to have more depth than that. For once! Thank goodness. (Hey count me in the bishie-watchers club. I could see the fanfic potential from ep 1. )
Someone mentioned before that they liked how the characters really acted like wolves, and I agree. Its pretty cool how they pull it off so far.
AND SPIKE LIVES!!!!!!! Who else thinks that wolf (damn what's his name?) looks like a teenage Spike. Kind of acts like a mischeivous version of him too....sorta...well I can dream right!!!!
I like so many of the characters. Especially the detective and scientist (they're such a cute couple with their divorce bickering  ), that wolf-hunter guy and his kick-ass dog. All the characters have interesting relationships, like the detective and the wolf hunter (very funny), he and his ex-wife, the flower maiden and the wolves, etc. Gee, I need to learn the characters' names.
My only complaint is that I can see how this show could follow a cliched plotline and succumb to mediocrity. But from everyone's posts, it sounds ok. Now I just wonder if I should watch it on my own or wait for my anime club....
Don't wait for the anime club. Get it now. It only gets better. :D
I like it because the characters are so complex. And of course it doesn't hurt that they're not too bad to look at.... And Hige does look like a pudgy mini-Spike. It's kind of freaky.

It's really great to see that all the characters are getting utilised; they all seem to play an important role in the story.

That's pretty disappointing, Morbius. I hate it when they take animation from previous episodes. Does nothing to advance the plot, which is irritating, especially for an anime that's had such a tight plot up until now.

Episode 16 is the same thing... This time from Toboe's perspective... I was so impressed with this anime up until now... But two clip episodes in a row? That's just wrong...
I'll bet you that they are going through each of the 4 main characters too... And that episode 17 will be from Hige's perspective...
I'm not happy...
{warning Westlo mini rant ahead}
Pretty dissapointing from Studio Bones, this is worse than Studio Madhouse making a clip episode of the first 9 episodes of Chobits. It was real hard to follow that he found Chii and got a job... oh my brain just overloaded...thanks for the recap Madhouse I couldn't keep up..
But two episodes (15 + 16) just recapping the first ep but from a different perspective....couldn't they have done the same thing in one episode instead of two....or something..
I liked how Bones handled the RahXephon recap ep and just made it a special that didn't add to the episode count (too many studios cop out by putting a recap ep in or two as Madhouse does). But the actual best handling of a clip episode I've seen is by Sunrise with Scryed. It was spread out over two episodes (like ep 12 and 19) and actually added to the anime unlike most clip eps I see.
{/end of mini rant}
I've always been meaning to catch up with this anime but I won't watch it fullstop if they have 4 recap eps that go over the same ground in a 26 ep series.
Let us know if this keeps occuring Morbius.
Last episode I watched was 11. I can't get into this anime, I've got up to 14 but I just haven't felt compelled to watch it every week like I did with some other recent shows (RahXephon, Haibane, SaiKano).
Of course it is near the end of the semester, my mid-year thesis seminar is next week, and I'm insanely busy, so that might have something to do with. I'll try to catch up with it during swotvac.
As if having 2 recap eps in a row wasn't bad enough I also read that theirs going to be a 4 week break between the next episode airing in the respective thread for WR on Animenation, and they aren't happy over this recap BS as well.
A four week break?! What are those people at Studio Bones thinking?!
I love this series, but come on.
dheu
It seems after doing the RahXephon movie, Bones have got hooked on telling stuff from a different perspective but this is ridiclous.
I'll focus on Last Exile and Scrapped Princess for now and if this recap BS keeps going I'll give up on WR.
Bones really need to lift their production game... but if the final product is good who are we to complain...
The bad news continues...
I read this thread on AnimeOnDVD... - AOD (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=generalanimeforum&Number=49438&page=&view=&sb=5&o=)
The 4 week break + 4 recap episodes in a row thing.. well it looks like it's going to occur... that just killed the series for me.
The only thing people can think of Bones doing this is because of money trouble... maybe they mismanged their funds (much) worse than Gainax did with Evangelion... maybe a Major sponsor pulled out so they have made these recap eps to conserve cash to finish the series off as well as they can..
It seems Bones had trouble with the RahXephon Movie as well, someone described it as incomplete..
I think Bones HAS been having trouble with money. The seemingly incomplete Rahxephon movie seemed indicative of some severe money problems... Hopefully they're recouping enough from that to be able to continue work on new projects.
Such a shame I was really looking forward to the RahXephon Movie... I hope this person misheard/read about it being incomplete...
And i wonder how long till Scrapped Princess runs into the same problems as RahXephon & Wolf's Rain have had... though that show would appeal to a broader range of people then Rah and WR.
But according to a poster SP was a series they were hired to do (animation + character design) while WR's their project... perhaps this is why WR and RAH Movie are so not polished/finished... in other words they spread themselves too thin..
after reading that....holy ------- ----

I would have thought that Wolf's Rain would have been one of the big series coming out in Japan this season... But since it has a 2 AM time slot (or around there depending on the station), it must not be very popular...
Episode 17 is set to air next week before the supposed break... I'm almost positive it will be another recap episode from what I've been reading...
I was a little upset at first, but then I realised that they have given me 14 great episodes and after the 4 recap episodes they will probably give me 8 more... Who am I to complain? That's more than some anime series have done...
I'll just catch up on some other series while I wait for Wolf's Rain to get good again...

Hmmm... things are certainly getting interesting, aren't they? Is this series really only going to be 26 episodes?! How are they going to tie everything together in only 6 more eps?
Anyway... *** SPOILERS AHEAD ***
Kiba's little side-trip into pseudo-Paradise was interesting. It raised a few questions. Is Myu actually real, some poor soul who wandered into the desert and died and is now stuck for all eternity in this place? If so, what is she? She seems to have the ability to "confuse" the eye to make it seem she's human, but glimpses of her show her clearly as some kind of bobcat or other wildcat. Are wolves the only ones who can confuse the eye? Or is Myu actually just a product of Kiba's mind? If she is, why didn't she appear to him as a wolf as well, instead of a different species?
The owl kind of freaked me out. He reminded me of that weird neko-thing that's everywhere in Azumanga Daioh... he even has the same voice, it sounded like.

well, from animenation they said that WR has been lisenced by Bandai (who else?)
and it is really not that popular in japan? sucks, it should've been
Found this reference on animeondvd.com:
"With thanks to Kratza for the heads-up in the forums, we've learned that the Anime Expo Industry Guest list has some interesting tidbits with in it, primarily for Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. It turns out that she'll be taking the lead role in the English dub for the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series as well as directing the dub for Wolf's Rain using Animaze. Animaze has been primarily doing work for Bandai as of late, giving more credence to the various rumors we've seen across our email box lately about Bandai having that license."
Damn, ep 22 out today and it gets licensed. Besides those 3 or 4 total recap episodes this has been a pretty well made series. Not really deep or something with "big" ideas, but a nice story with good action and good character development

I'm glad that I'll be able to get this series on dvd.... but I'm a little upset that I'll have to wait who knows how long before I can find out how the last 10 eps go. I just hope that Bandai can get it out quickly and that they'll do a good job on it. I already know that I'll be buying this one up as soon as it hits the shelves.

And I found a new source for WR since live-evil dropped it... Even sweeter...
Going to go watch episode 23 now...
Hmm maybe they should just drop episodes 14-18 (or whatever the recap eps were) and just make it a standard 26 episode series for the DVD release.
It would be cruel of Bandai to put a proper episode on the same disc as the recap eps.... or even spread it out over 2 discs...
First Witch Hunter Robin bombs in Japan and now this I guess it's got to be a mecha or harem anime to be popular in japan or have the name Ghibli on the credits.

How else do you explain second seasons of the likes of Gravion, and yes even Vandread? Japan houses the same morons as you have next door, only enriched with a different cultural flavour. Then again anime is mass media, so what am I bitching about. . . .
I am curious how they'll solve the recap episodes. Putting them all on one DVD would be best, you'd be able to avoid all of them by just not buying one DVD. If you really wanted them you'd at least have the choice to buy them or not.
I didn't think the recap episodes were that bad. There were a few valuable insights into the different characters. Watching them back to back was a bit boring, true, because I've watched the early episodes so often, but I don't think they were a complete waste of time.
With 30 episodes, the simplest plan would be to have 6 dvds with 5 episodes on each. That would put all the recaps on one dvd, but it would also put another non-recap episode with them. It'd be kind of hard to avoid buying that dvd, then, and I'm sure there will be some mad people out there buying a dvd for basically only 20 minutes of new material... but what can you do.
Of course, these production companies never seem to think along the lines of "simplicity", so we might end up with weird numbers of episodes in each volume and the recaps might be split onto two discs.
Which would you guys prefer: recap eps all on one disc, even though there might be one non-recap episode on there too; or recap episodes split up between two different discs?

Series still going strong...
anyway, I had a question more pertaining to its music, but, you know the song at the end of episode 21? They play it at the end of 25 too. It's not on the Wolfs Rain OST, so does anyone know anything about it? I'm pretty sure that's Steve Conte singing, since he's done a bunch of songs with Yoko Kanno
Typing in the lyrics on Google brough up 0 matches too, and I cry, cause it's a really neat song
There are a lot of songs that aren't on the OST. I'm hoping another soundtrack is going to come out soon, because I'd snatch it up in a second.
I haven't seen ep 21. Are you finding it fansubbed? Fansubbers are supposed to stop releasing series once they've been licensed!

That's kinda sucky... Good because the quality will be better but bad because it will be a while before it comes out...
I'm kinda ashamed to say that I've been downloading the fansubs but I find the quality has dropped after it was licensed and most of the good fansubbers dropped it... Wow. Let's hear it for me. I called it. Apparently Bandai has a poll running on what kind of Kiba plushy to include with the limited edition of Wolf's Rain: a human Kiba, a wolf Kiba, or a wolf "SD" Kiba.
This is definitely going to be one I pre-order. Plushy! :kawaii:
Now, if someone could just tell me what "SD" stands for. Unless it has something to do with the last few episodes, in which case don't spoil anything for me.
