Animals don't have anything close to humans' level of reasoning and mental capacity. They are mentally inferior. It's unfair to judge them compared to humans. Animals run mostly on instinct and basic parent-offspring learning by example. Some animals can co-ordinate their hunting and defensive patterns, but nothing near to the detail and foresight that humans can.

First of all, you're basing this judgment of yours on animal vs. human intelligence upon what you saw in a movie. An animated movie with giant talking animals. Go out and watch a pack of lions bring down a bull giraffe or a family of dolphins aid a drowning relative to safety - or some other REAL animal at work - before you call animals stupid.

Animals may not have humans' mental capacity or reasoning or whatnot, but admit it... there's a whole lot of people out there who have neither that nor any ability to cooperate, make decisions, etc. Animals can, and mostly by instinct or learning from their mothers. They ARE smart - they know what they need to do to survive, they sort out the most efficient ways to do it, and they survive. They do it a heck of a lot better than many humans I've known, I might add.

No, I'm basing my opinion on what I know about the real world. The animals in the movie demonstrated far greater intelligence than they do in real life.

Animals, as I said before, are stupid when compared to humans. I do not deny they can demonstrate basic thought processes and communicate with others. I do deny that animals in general are anywhere remotely close to humans. Some species of chimps and aquatic mammals are closer to us with respect to intelligence, but they still have immeasurably far to go. My comments were not meant to insult.

Technology is not our downfall because it is one of the things that elevate us from the rest of the life on this planet. Technology is the physical manifestation of our minds when rationally applied to a problem. Our wisdom and intelligence are what make us special.

If humans are so smart than how come we have so many problems in the world.Like the rain forest and polution and not to mention over population.We may be smarter in math,reading and communication and thats why we have so many structres, but there are still some things that science cant explain. I dont think were supposed to know everything in the world, but at least the animals are not destroying the world around us.We cut down trees and polute the enviorment and some day there will be no world. I just think we shouldn't be so arogant about our superiority to animals. Drizz is right, we don't have to do anything for our environment. I think morally though, we should have taken more responsability for our environment throughout history. But as evolution shows, we learn from our mistakes and only get smarter from them.

But that wasn't exactly on topic, now was it?

Now, for something more on topic... I believe the humans and animals were somewhat equal in the film. They each had there superiority and inferiority to each other. The humans have great intelligence, reasoning, technology, ambition, and many skills, but are gready, cowardly, untrusting of their own kind (fuedal), shortsightedness, and a few other things. The animals have wisdom, help each other to keep a balance of all things, have superior senses of sight, smell, hearing, and taste, but base many decisions on instinct rather than reason, are blinded by pride easily, and can be fooled relatively easily. This is sort of how I see it as. I'm not saying the humans are dumb and the animals aren't intelligent. I believe one message of the movie was that we humans take things for granted and have much more to learn about animals, the environment, and ourselves.

I think that the animals weren't stupid. Some of the humans were. They caused the animals to go crazy which caused more killing. Some animals were stupid but some were wise...

We've got to acknowledge one thing before this can go anywhere: every animal in the film was "humanized." They were explicitly given human qualities, emotions, and motivations. They were elevated from the natural state we'd normally find them in.

In reality, humans are superior to animals. In the movie, they were made somewhat equal since most of the humans remained stereotypically human while most of the animals benefited from considerable gains in intelligence, logic, and critical thinking.
