I have the first 2 DVDs of Gasaraki, I have only seen em once (when I was drunk) and didnt realise how many more DVDs there were in the series. So here's the big question.,.is it really worth it? Will Gasaraki have anything forfilling to it or is it just another shithouse mass produced mecha anime? Should I continue purchasing the DVDs in the hope that it will rate as well as it does in reviews ("Who needs evangelion when you have gasaraki")?

I rented Gasaraki once to expose myself to a new anime that looked interesting....I dunno if I got a disc in the middle of the series..(they weren't numbered) or it was on hell of an incoherent series, but when I saw it...I was like....."........what?" It didn't make any sense at all...what was the force the pilot was controlling? How could he do that? What did that have to do with mechas? And what was that girl doing?.....I dun mean to sound critical, and I'm certainly not trying to bash the series or it's fans...It's just.....I dun get it.

actually u just reminded me, I have em all fansubbed around here somewhere, was gonna watch em before purchasing but somewhere along the line forgot I even had em and went out and purchased anyways. Gasaraki mustn've had a very long fansub stage tho, usually some anime stay unlicensed for years before the producers pick up on the good thin...

Better write up a list of what you have if you’re starting to forget penguin.... Then send said list to me ^^
Nah if you want the true Evangelion rip off with a human completion type project thing included get Space Runaway Ideon instead.
Wait a sec it was made in 1983 by Tomino and is a show which Hideaki Anno admittedly counts as one of his three all-time favorite anime (along with Space Cruiser Yamato and Tomino's other little show, Mobile Suit Gundam).

Can anyone say "Oro"?
Pengi don't compare Gasaraki to Evangelion they are completely different types of animes. Gasaraki is more of a political mecha anime to Evangelion's well you already know what it is.
Gasaraki is a very slow anime and features a large cast of characters, I didn't particuarly like it so I'll let someone who likes it sell it to you but since you got the fansubs you could always view them to see if you like it which is always the best way.

Well I just got the Gasaraki box set recently for ~$100, and I think it was well worth it. This anime is definitely one of the best i've ever seen, having very well done mecha action, and a well developed storyline. Also, ADV did a very good dub job with this, and I would much rather watch it dubbed than from a fansub on the internet.
Also, this series is an 8 disc set, and it says the number of each dvd right on the side of the dvd case.
As a side note, I've noticed that this anime is not for everyone. Some people I know loved it, and others hated it. This is really one of those animes you have to tryout for yourself to see if YOU will like it. Take any opinion here with a grain of salt(even mine), because you will likely disagree with some of the people here after you've tried it.

Actually, Ideon was made in 1980, not 1983. It was the first thing Tomino made after Gundam. Certainly wasn't as good as Gundam, but still really good IMHO.
Eva's no Ideon ripoff (no anime I've seen yet is a ripoff of anything else IMHO) although no way do I (and Westlo obviously) let someone get away with calling Gasaraki one of Eva. Ideon isn't really like the human instrumentality thing (as far as I can tell... have the second movie raw so dunno about what they're saying... maybe Westlo has it translated...?) but the melding all people into one thing is there; one of the characters is exactly like Ritsuko, everyone ends up dying just like in Eva, and of course the big thing, the ending, all Anno does is change it from 'Happy Birthday Children' to 'Congradulations Children' Although I don't like using the ripoff word myself, if you call Gasaraki an Eva ripoff you have to call Eva an Ideon one. And a show can't be ripped off if its nothing more than a ripoff itself...

Please note, that I *did not* compare Gasaraki to Evangelion. That was done by another company. I merely quoted them.
